Try to speak without moving your mouth and tongue. That's the sound that would be coming out of a throat mic. All they pick up is the vibrations from your larynx; which is only part of how humans speak. They're only useful for people like fighter pilots who need to say simple things to each other while their mouths are full of breathing gear.
