Want to know something interesting?
Intel has a employee teaching program that have people come to the stores and train employees at Best Buy's and micro centers and wherever they sell intel products so the employees know what they're selling. Also giving them incentives along the way and pretty much preparing them to go out and sell intel to the consumer.

Linus Media Group actually does their training videos.

And Linus just tore them a new one.

Really activates your almonds, doesn't it?

desu I don't even get the whole HEDT bullshit.
Intel had Xeons for workstation use...since forever. Opteron was not really a thing for workstations.

Now AMD would have Threadripper, and Intel could have just had Xeons like always.

This whole X299 from Intel is retarded.
The entire HEDT segment is like 0.1% of the market, literally who cares segment.

Like it or not, the 7700K is still the best single-thread performer on the market. Give credit where it's due. AMD won the multi core game and parallel workload, Intel kept the single thread crown.

Nothing wrong with that, at least we have choice now.

No, Xeon was never HEDT. That was always Intel's server CPU, and they were very vigilant to protect that market from their own HEDT CPUs.

Son, people OC'd the 2500Ks into hell and they are still going strong. IMO every i5 and i7 needs a proper air cooler, and if you go OC, use a water cooler. If you keep temps low, nothing bad will happen.

I mean, I used my i7 on air, stock cooler. In the summer my PC froze when I played APB for a longer time due to the heat build up + shit cooling + hot ambient temps. Replaced cooler with an EVO212.... it became a beast.

Intel could literally rebadge Ivy Bridge processors and sell them for $300 and they'd still beat similarly priced AMD processors.

I feel like intel could just lay back for 5 years, keep selling their current shit and when AMD finally announces their """""""rival"""""""", a year or so later than anticipated, intel could just increase clock speeds by 500 Mhz and the problem would be solved.

>As for the 4GB R9 290 vs. 8GB R9 390 comparison, there was nothing to see here. Most games didn't consume more than 4GBs of VRAM, but there were cases such as in Assassin's Creed Syndicate where with almost 5GBs of memory usage, there was still not a single frame difference. Moreover, in this Assassin's Creed Syndicate example the 290 and 390 were good for just 26fps on average, so clearly the quality settings will need to be reduced for achieving playable performance and consequently memory use will drop.

>The 390 and 390X are really graphics cards we never wanted. At the time of their release the Radeon R9 290 and 290X were exceptional buys. The 290X cost just $330, while today the 390X costs around $100 more for no additional performance and it is no different with the 290 and 390.

>We see plenty of gamers claiming that the 390 and 390X are excellent buys due to their 8GB frame buffer ensuring that they are "future proofed," and well, that simply isn't the case, as neither GPU has the horsepower to efficiently crunch that much data. Perhaps the only valid argument here is that the larger frame buffer could support Crossfire better, but we haven't seen any concrete evidence of this yet.

P95 is useless on modern Intel CPUs. I've had OCs stable in P95 and IBT for long ass periods of time and they would BSOD within 30 minutes of BF4 every single time, despite both CPU load and temperature being much, much lower. The whole "get it as hot as possible" mentality doesn't work from Haswell and up. That sounds like a solid pragmatic approach though, if you're using the system for entertainment why give a fuck about P95 crashes? Worst case scenario your entertainment gets interrupted and you drop 100MHz or slightly bump up the voltage, not the end of the world.

>>60749387
CPUs don't get damaged unless you're absolutely insane with the voltage. At such high voltage levels you're far beyond the point where you can expect to get a usable day-to-day OC, so you either know what you're doing and what you're pushing for or you're a misinformed retard punching random numbers into the BIOS. Basically read up on the safe voltage levels and you'll be fine, even if it throttles it won't get damaged.

>>60749418
Yeah, increased heat would technically make it wear out sooner.
>>
>>60746688
>longevity
LOL! Find me literally anyone who says an Intel CPU from the past 10 years had a higher than a 1% failure rate. Longevity argument is complete bullshit. Intel CPUs throttle at 100 C and they could easily go 120 C without damage, but they'll never get that hot because of aforementioned throttling.

I'd definitely buy a quad core today, if I needed a new PC. Happy with my i5-4690 at the moment.

Yup AMD's gonna pull the plug on AM4 as soon as possible, because they're literally Intel 2.0. Retard.

ryzen 2 won't be worth upgrading from 6 core ryzen dumbshit, you're living a lie, none of your upgrade scenarios are reasonable

Lol. Enjoy buying your Z370 mother board for your 14nm 9600 i5, don't forget your warranty breaking delid tool.

I'll just get my soldered 7nm 2600X running at 5Ghz.

Steam is great source for looking at computer demographics.
>>
you're a dishonest idiot if you think it's worth it to upgrade your cpu within 1-2 generations

if you sell your cpu second hand you can sell your motherboard too

and a motherboard only costs like $100. $150 for a really good one
>>
>>60750909
Those sure are some sour grapes.
>>
>>60750909
You have to understand Zen is a brand new arch with a lot of room for improvement. There is a lot of low hanging fruit. I'm expecting 10-15% better IPC.
>>
>>60750934
keep telling yourself that IDIOT

you'd be better off buying a better cpu in the first place like 8 core ryzen or even threadripper (if you need the cores) instead of going buying a 6 core and then immediately upgrading to ryzen 2
>>
>>60750909

Maybe I started small with six cores, just so I could go big on the next generation that has a performance increase similar to going from Nehalem to Ivy Bridge?

Sell the great performance to price ratio Ryzen 5, and get me Pinnacle Ridge.
>>
>>60750953

I believe they said 10-15% IPC imorovement for Zen+, and 5% imorovement for the next two iterations. Then we get the next core design with DDR5 and PCIe 4.
>>
>>60750984
>>60751009
the last release came short of expectations but let's just wait, the next big thing AMD has in store for us is just around the cornerâ„¢
>>
>>60750909
You really have no idea how big the gains will be going from 14nm to 7nm and going from an LPP to an HPP.

This isn't like Intel's yearly warmed over refreshes kid.
>>
>>60751022
See >>60750886

And it's not like Ryzen is bad for the future now.

I mean, they aren't trying to sell me hiuse fires with vendor lock in and inconsistent CPU feature support.

That just means the platform launch met expectations. Came in on target. The market shouldn't have a big jump unless something unexpected happened because investors priced in the future platform launch.

And then I'm good to sit on that until the next best architecture gets released.
>>
>>60751497
you're literally delusional and acting like knowing what LPP and HPP mean is something special just because you learned it yesterday
>>
>>60751467
Depending on what you want it for. 1600 is choice now, if you want an 8core Ryzen2.
If you're making profit and calculations to do so will be much faster on a 1800x, get that.
And is just hard to recommend a 1500x as it's four core. I doubt there'll be a secondhand market if you can't ship it to a country with low wages like America.
