He'll have to spend hours fiddling with Win7 if he wants both updates and no telemetry. The monthly rollups that they distribute for updates now will reinstall the telemetry updates, and you can't cherry-pick certain updates to install (or remove) from those rollups. He'll have to go and download all the security-only packages by hand every time there are updates released.

Linux is only hours of fiddling if you choose a timesink distro like Arch. Or if you choose to fiddle.

I actually, just yesterday installed arch linux on my PC and it took me less than an hour to make it usable (with GUI etc).
Just pacman -S <software>

Its not a meme though, its either you don't update (or freeze important packages)
or you end up fixing something when a package update fucks it up.

But Linux is fine if you are using a sane distro like CentOS and completely
redeploying every 4-6 years. Try holding that Arch install together for longer
than a year or two while you are constantly adding and removing/updating
programs.

I just don't use Windows for work/browsing the internet/porn. I use Linux for that.

I only boot into my Windows 7 partition to game.

Kek. I run Ubuntu 16.04 and it's ridiculously easy to install, then everything works out of the box. No downloading of drivers nor nothing. Keeping the system updated is a breeze.

The only thing that's iffy is scanning documents with my wireless scanner.
