I'm not sure either about that. If you start your own one, you might want to get the word out somehow for people to come help, because the open source world is by no means small, and just like a tweet on Twitter a repo with no activity would have been lost.

Take a look at GuixSD. It's the same idea, but it's a GNU project, so it uses scheme as the configuration language and aspires to be free by default. Also, no systemd.
