Unironically this is the reason why nix based operating systems will only ever be adopted by techs and other fringe circles. Most people just want to click an icon and get their application fix, it doesn't matter if it tracks their information or flashes an ad every once in a while. The instant gratification of having something that simply works overrides the effort in customization, compilation, and even cherishing their own privacy.

And if that application ever stops working, you can guarantee someone will have made an alternative, still loaded with trackers and ads.

>>60692728
>>60692872
Naming conventions have also been irredeemably unintuitive and it's been an issue since forever. Call the fucking thing what it is in a sense that most people can instantly at least guess what something does.

Don't complain about a lack of users when everything is named in some tongue in cheek convention then only a handful of people will get.

Just dropping by to see what /g/ talks about and the thread got me thinking.
Is Linux made for 1337 hackers or do the guys developing it want normal people to use it too?
Because if you wanna get general public you really shouldn't add stupid shit that wastes time. Maybe have it as an option, but also do things in normal ways. You really think Smith cares about compiling programs when he can just run exe?
Just copy the shit out of Windows and then add gimmicky bullshit as an option for haxxermen.

What would be the problem with dumbing it down? Like adding Windows-like GUI, etc. that you could turn off/not use if you don't want a 'dumbed down' version.
>>
>>60694330
It already exists (Linux Mint), but if you would really push it to the masses then you would have to cut down features and "complexity" like dumbing down package managers, config files, terminal, etc

Hell KDE, Unity and Gnome 3 are just as easy to use as windows after a day learning curve. If you can't learn to use any of these desktop environments within a half week then you're literally retarded.
A majority of the programs that normies use are either on a "App Store", packaged as a deb (no harder than clicking an exe) or one terminal command away.
Linux is already dumbed down enough. The only legitimate complaint is the lack of professional software from fuckers like adobe.
>>

>>60694385
I wouldn't call gimp superior. Gimp is shit. Everyone who actually uses photoshop and gimp knows that gimp is shit.

The fact that Adobe software doesn't exist on Linux is no fault of kernel or distribution developers. The fuckers at adobe have literally been paid to not port their software.
They cite a lack of market share but that's all bullshit.

I've had to install everything from wifi, ethernet, usb and chipset drivers (and obviously GPU drivers), there's always at least 2-3 devices not recognised or working.
And for various usb dongles like usb2serial, usb programmers, etc, you pretty much always need a different driver per manufacturer.
My experience with 15+ years of PC-building has been that Linux definitetly have better out of the box driver support.

When a typical spermoblead tries to penetrate the acne through the "front door", deluded by the joys of the priests, proudly looking up his nose, she is faced with a strict examination, which immediately reveals the level of knowledge and skills of the wretched. In particular, it turns out that in all the fragments the same unnatural pose, in which spermobyadin is traditionally used to become a master, it turns out that beyond the soul of spermoblidina there is no knowledge, except these very habits associated with alleviating the anal oppression of the sperm self. And here, since the entrance is "ceremonial", right before the eyes of thousands of inhabitants of the jam the massacre is coming. An ancient and carefully punished punitive mechanism for anachronism launches its cyclopean manipulators directly into the anus of spermoblidins and rapidly tears it and splits it into tatters. This is one of the funniest things for all acne. This is what makes all other entertainment meaningless, something that can not be compared to the intensity of the passions and the power of impressions with nothing. On spermoblyadsky cries a lot of onlookers flock. A miserable beggar screams, accuses anyone of what has happened, but not himself, laments and laments that the acne is not suitable for life, that the spinal column seems to like a permanent rupture of the anus; Anything will be shouted out - just not to recognize your own wretchedness and the reliability of its definition and its obviousness in the pimple. But truth is known to acne. It's simple. That most reliable anachronism figured out the chronic spermoblade and just struck it. This makes the cries of spermoblysysha even more ludicrous.

There are two types of open source projects: The first type is the software built by womanless losers on SourceForge who have so much fucking free time in their lives that they can take hours out of their day to contribute to some worthless open source project that like everything else in their pathetic lives they won’t complete. They won’t document it. They won’t fix the legions of bugs that they built into the software. They will just fade away leaving their code-turd forever stinking up the digital domain.

The second type of open source project is maybe even more insidious than the first. It’s the corporate open source project. This is the project which is directed by, funded by and whom all of the contributors are employed by large corporations. It’s open source to better their market position or to encourage the use of their services. I’m fine with that. I’m a lover of capitalism. What disgusts me are you doe-eyed open source hippies that swallow the bullshit they are feeding you. You naive losers are being bamboozled by your corporate masters because you don’t understand how marketing works. They are contributing to the open source “movement” not to make the world a better place or set software free or build a code utopia or whatever nonsense you believe they are doing it to gain consulting services market share, raise brand awareness or the sell their proprietary solutions that complement the “free ones.”

This is seriously one of the biggest stumblnig blocks with linux that linuxfags refuse to acknowledge

people like being able to download an executable, double clicking and "it just werks" can't fucking do that on linux though!

Nobody likes sorting through a shitty package manager that half the time doesn't even have what you're looking for so you end up googling it anyways and then you either have to compile stupid bullshit or download something already compiled but then try and figure out how to fucking launch it because lol no executables in the folder, and then you google and someone tells you 'just use the command line to run it!' and you can't because you don't even fucking know what to type in or how you'd even figure it out

Oh and then even if you do compile something and successfully installing it (obviously having to follow a fucking step by step guide because it's THAT goddamn complicated on linux) oh no it turns out it actually had dependencies you don't have and it doesn't work and now you have to figure out what those dependencies are and how to install them (another 3 hours of following step by step guides for shit that ought to 'just werk')

At the end of the day a new user has now spent 16 hours just trying to get his stupid fucking bullshit worthless linux install to run a couple simple programs that would've taken 10 minutes to install and get working on windows.

And delusional lincucks defend this
They think it's a good thing and then wonder "whycome linux ain't isn't exploding on the desktop!????!?"

linuxfags are all fucking incompetent retarts who can't design a good operating system for other retards. Microsoft and apple btfo linux on the desktop any day of the week because of this.

so how do we add 'just werks' technology to linux?

This is why linux will never have any marketshare on the desktop

lincucks want a half-baked OS they have to fiddle with to get working.

Everyone in the real world needs something simple and easy to use so they can spend their time doing actual work and not futzing around with an operating system that fails to do so many simple and basic tasks.

Wake up lincucks. There will never be a year of linux on the desktop so long as you plug your heads in the sand about UI, UX, and simple operability.

You can do that with AppImages and Snaps
>>
Oh man he posted it again !!!
>>
>>60698821
What is apt? You have to be some kind of mongol not to be able to sudo apt install a thing. Four words that download a program and all of its dependencies is better than getting an installer for a shitty wangblows shareware program that gives you a free ask toolbar, syphilis and another NSA backdoor.

Also apt:// in failfox is breddy convenient.

Furthermore in windows if something doesn't install right or breaks it is actually pretty fucking awful to get working. The guts of the OS are not very intuitive or well documented. In linux its usually just a few kind words into that ecksterm to get something to work.

spent literally my entire afternoon yesterday tryin to figure out how to mount the fuckin windows shares with my linux laptop, man, how fuckin happy I was at the end.
Then I've tried to find some non shitty actually usable music player with good library management and layout, found out it's impossible, only piece of shit totally basic, ugly, disgusting music players exist on linux, tried to install MusicBee with wine, turned out wine is a piece of shit, fucked with it probably 3 hours, then let it rot, at this point I didnt even wanted to listen to music anymore

Then I was tryin' to just chillin, browse the web, gnome-shell fuckin crashes without legit reason, then I learn the Alt + F2: r magic trick which brings this piece of shit back to life, then I felt I've had enough with this shit, literally zero advantage to win10 except this shady no botnet skeleton but hey, I have a fuckin amazon app in my app drawer which can not be removed without fucking up entire Ubuntu so I guess thats not true ether

You aren't willing to try things out which is why nothing works for you. You aren't willing to try things out because you believe things will break and you won't know how to fix it. But if you don't break things and fix them you will never know how to fix things that break. Therefore you will never learn anything and you will always live in misery. This is called being unintelligent, OP.

I've switched from 8.1 to Ubuntu because its only a matter of time before something like wannacry happens again and the next time its going to be credit card numbers or banking passwords. Here's my experience. The windows interface looks better and is way smoother. No contest. No matter how much you customize linux it just looks cheap and is less functional. The video support is also worse. On the other side, I have no ads, none of my bandwith is being used for advertising or spying. When I download something from ubuntu software center I know its not going to be malware, riddled with ads, etc. 99% of the time its good software that gets the job done. No metro bullshit, and programs remind me of old school windows programs that were unnecessarily disposed of like windows media player, and windows picture viewer. Its really a trade off.
