I posted about a compact board with browns or clears in the previous thread. A guy said that gateron browns are better than cherry ones? Can anyone tell me if there is any much difference?
>>

there is a difference

Cheers, would you say that the gateron is more or less tactile than the cherry? I only have experience with the cherry brown.

gateron switches tend to be smoother than their cherry counterpart

long story short I used the wrong dye. I tried RIT liquid instead of the iDye poly packs (the former only sort of work on PBT, the latter works perfectly). Those were meant to be the old 70's sunburst orange yellow brown and look how shite it turned out. I'm gonna try it again because I want that retro look, in the mean time i basically got keycaps to match my OS (because I'm that level of cool)
>>
>>60682013

This Gherkin memeboard reddit loves is the stupidest shit. You literally only have 30 keys total, 26 letters, shift and an fn key leaves you just two more keys for modifiers on the main layer and all the rest need to be on other layers. So retarded.
>>
Are there any 75% (84 keys) boards with gateron browns available in europe that look good? only ones I can find are either gamer, shitty switches or only available in white. I want a noppoo choc mini lookalike with gaterons around €60-80, is it possible?

Picked up a DREVO 84 key recently, feels pretty good. Anyone know of a good cheap keyset that is compatible with this keyboard?
>>
>>60683249
I'm kissing the poverty line and I still don't consider $95-110 expensive for a good mechanical keyboard. And that price is including a warranty

Besides, by looking as simple as it does it looks way better than most cheaper mks, which nearly always have le gaymur spikey designs and LEDs in colors that aren't white

thanks man :-D. I am really happy with the Arch themed keys. unicomp was fast to ship too which is cool (I live in the US though, faster here than EMEA probably) I'm gonna take another go at dying a full 104 keyset, but next time I'll be using iDye, and planning to have the legends obscured :(. If I can find a good mixture of RIT liquid+acid I might give those another go as they did work somewhat and left the legends intact. Thanks for the note on the pictures too, I usually just go with what light is there without much through but it probably detracts from clarity

I wish Unicomp was selling caps with colored legends when I was buying mine, but I just can't justify the expense, especially with how I just bought a set of enjoypbt with purple legends for a different KB. I'm a big sucker for colored legends; I just like how it adds color in a more subtle fashion while the rest of the keyboard can keep looking professional. In any case, it's great to be American now that Unicomp has started upping their cap offerings.
>>
Anyone here get the GMK Yuri?
>>
>>60683607
if you are an adventurous type, get some iDye poly from a joann's fabric near you (about 2.50 a pack) and dye them youself. the RIT liquid will keep the legends but you'll need to boil the keys forever (PBT wont warp in boiling at least per personal experience, i boiled PBT for an hour straight with no warping) and you'll need to add varying degrees of a solvent to get the dye to hold better.

I don't know if it's present on the One, but my Ducky G2 is basically the same thing and has a problem where the spacebar rebounds excessively when hit from certain angles, sometimes causing an extraneous switch activation.
>>
>>60683703
Certainly never experienced that with my One. I have o-rings under the space bar though
>>
>>60683486
>he has trouble hitting a key that is along the edge of the case
Only key sacrificed was half of the backspace, which was not because of the ISO enter but instead bec of the ¥ key.
ANSI enter is much easier to hit accidentally when hitting "]" or "\". ISO has to be intentionally hit since it's out of the way of the typing position.

I work as a data-entry automation tool engineer. So shit like a full numpad and arrows are very important to me. I'm looking to make a small, portable board that can do data entry very well and not be come model-m monster that I have to drag around. I have a small background in Circuit design so I figured I'd give making a keyboard a crack. It isn't that hard so long as you don't plot out logistics and stuff for a case, which is why I'm going with a standard size. Aluminum CNC cases for 60% boards are ~70$ USD which is a hell of a lot cheaper than I could make one for.

>>60680774
so my dads birthday is coming up this weekend and i was looking to buy him a mechanical keyboard because the one he has now is just cancer and he does a lot of word editing.
i just recently got mine and he mentioned tonight how much he loved his old model-m keyboard.

basically here's what he needs:
-doesn't have to be cherry mx, kailh switches are fine
-obviously he doesn't need a gaming keyboard so any features dedicated to gaming are null
-100$ cad maximum
-something i can find in stores relatively easily
-he probably doesn't care if its loud, so blue switches are fine.
-backlighting etc is just a bonus.

i have an azio mgk1 that i really love so i was thinking of getting him one but i'd like to hear other alternatives too.

tldr: my dad needs a mec. keyboard, needs to be 100$ cad or under and it needs to be more on the professional/simple side.

yes it does you fucktard. the force required to press they key is a huge factor as long as how fast it comes back up. some fat fuck with heavy slow fingers will want stiffer springs, while some skeleton might want lighter springs. Also the feel of the switches is massively important from a psychological perspective. If the switches feel natural to you, you will type faster hands down.

Is there anything like the Filco Magestouch Tenkeyless, but with PBT keys from the factory?

I wouldn't mind replacing the keycaps with something like this:
but at $129 for a keyboard and $55 for the keycaps, it seems like I should be able to find a keyboard that has what I want from the factory. Or maybe I should just look at different keycaps?

Is filco still a good keyboard? I've had mine with brown switches and had it for 7 years. Still works good and none of the keys I mash for gaming hasn't worn out but I want to try linear switches and looking at leopold. What are some good brands with very basic design and very durable with good build quality?

Hey, I´m currently using a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2014 and since a few weeks some switches activate twice when pressing them, which makes typing a real pain. Can this be fixed by a proper cleaning or is it fucked and i should get something with cherry mx switches?

I can't decide between a noppoo choc mini and the drevo gramr. Gonna go with brown switches on either, anyone have any experience as to which is the better quality board? I would expect the better quality one to be the choc mini but I hear it has issues with debouncing?

What is so good about 60% keyboards? I feel like the arrow keys are important and for the god life of me I cannot justify buying a 60% keyboard. Who exactly are they build for?
>>
>>60694694
For me it's the ergonomics and extra desk space. Having the keyboard positioned center to your body helps a lot. Also clears a lot of room for your desk and mouse. I play a lot of games and I never bump into my keyboard with a %60, but with a full keyboard I'm bumping into that shit constantly.

It's also weird at first to have the arrow keys under a layer, but you get used to it and it's not bad at all. I only keep a keyboard with arrow keys around for games that use them for primary movement, like touhou.

It probably has something to do with how I type combined with those letters' frequencies. My ring finger has no dexterity, so I hit the "s" with my middle finger and the "c" with my index finger in such a way that my fingernail often makes contact with those keycaps. Combine that with those letters also being very common and not only are those letters wearing off, but I get gouges in the tops of the keys as well. There are other keys on my keyboard that don't ever see my fingernail, though, like "w" and "e," which are wearing down as well.

The keycaps Filco uses are pretty low quality, so if you really used yours for 7 years and you're really not getting any wear to the keycaps, then you aren't typing enough.
>>
>>60699047
The chink clones are like 40-70 bucks depending on what you want. Custom sets will cost more, and the price will come down overtime since SP sold their old toolings to the chinks. Vortex has SP DSA sets coming soon.

Can anyone recommend another nice chink PBT set that doesn't have issues with backlight bleed? Need one for my TKL. I like the EnjoyPBT sets, but they're way too expensive at over $80. There's a Dolch set on AliExpress that looks nice, but I'm worried about the lighter keys having some bleed.

anyone prefer typing when their keyboard is on a softer surface (mouse mat)? I recently started using a mouse mat with my topre, and I swear to god it feels more comfortable/faster. >>60696610

>>
>>60701104
There's nothing ergonomic about the ortho layout, and the Planck creator has said so in the past. The advantages are solely in complete programmability and a the full set of bottom row keys.
It does look really nice, however.

Speaking of ergonomics, has there ever been an attempt at a variable weight cherry board? I know Topre has a couple, and the worst it would require is some tedious replacing of springs.
