>consumer vega most likely wont be available until the end of the summer
IT JUST ISN'T FAIR AMDBRO'S, 2017 WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR YEAR!

We already knew RX Vega would be launching in July. There was an interview with Lisa Su where she all but confirmed it.

"Frontier Edition will ship with 16GB of HBM2 towards the latter half of June. You will see the enthusiast gaming platform, the machine learning platform and the processional graphics platform very soon thereafter. And so, we will be launching Vega across all the market segments over the next couple of months. "

Vega isn't off from AMD's internal schedule by more than 1 or 2 months.

This literally doesn't matter when it's off by consumer schedules by several months.

>still 2017

AMD is a much smaller company with less resources than it's competition. Can't expect them to get products out the door that fast. If they can't compete it just means NVidia has a defacto monopoly and you might as well just start sucking green dick, then.
>>
>>60675449
Here's something that annoys me:

> AMD is a small company yet they have GNU/Linux developers working full-time on MESA
> GNU/Linux MESA drivers for AMD cards now perform _better_ than their proprietary Windows/Linux drivers in many games

NVidia is a much bigger company with a lot more resources yet they don't have a single developer working on MESA or non-free drivers and they refuse to provide any documentation or any help at all to those few people who are, own their own, working on free drivers for nvidia cards.

What this means is that nvidia isn't even a choice for those of us who use GNU/Linux. And before anyone claims that "but nvidia provides binary blob drivers", yes they do but in reality they don't. Those will lock you to a fre older distributions with specific kernel and Xorg versions.

Ah yes the good old amd pajeet damage control.

Just like when the next amd turd launches and it performs like utter garbage and you guys go around saying that nobody expect it to not be a piece of shit. How fucking typical.
>>

Mesa drivers don't even have a fucking control center.

>facts are damage control
Ok. You can fuck off now.
>>

This is why x86 is fucked. You've got two giant companies, both of whom don't give a fuck about consumers, both play dirty, and one smaller company fighting both at once while constantly getting shit on by those exact same consumers for not destroying both of them at once. This is not a healthy competitive market. It's one that will eventually be supplanted and replaced by competitors in healthier competitive markets like ARM.

>like ARM.
RISC-V.

>By the time Vega is out Volta will be right around the corner
Fuck bros how can we even compete? Vega won't even beat the 1080ti and mid range Volta will shit on it.
>>
>>60675943
Volta won't be out until Q2 2018. And it'll be 20% faster than Pascal if you're lucky.

If this will happen or not is a good question

but

It would be so cool and great for consumers in general if RISC-V or ARM kills x86-64.

Windows has ensured a in-practice monopoly for Intel for a very long time. x86 compatibility matters for running legacy apps on that one. As a GNU/Linux user I don't care, everything would work just fine on a Risc-V CPU.

I'm not sure if Risc-V or ARM can do it for very powerful workstations and gaming rigs.. but just what ARM offers today on the high-end would suit me just fine as a laptop CPU.
>>
>>60675449
raja basicly confirmed that the drivers for vega is the sole reason for its delay
>>
>>60676073
Windows is already running on ARM. It has a x86 emulation layer.

>It would be so cool and great for consumers in general if RISC-V or ARM kills x86-64.
RISC-V, not ARM.
Take a look at https://riscv.org/2017/05/6th-risc-v-workshop-proceedings/
Specifically, the RISC-V foundation members. Everybody's in there. ARM and Intel are notably missing.
Intel has a symbiotic relationship with the windows monopoly and will be able to resist for a while. ARM has nothing of the sort, and will be skewered.
