So what are the pros of 10 over 7?
Just to get the cons out of the way
>App store
>bloated "features" like Cortana
>telemetry out the ass
>dx12 barely utilized besides a couple of games that are crap

>inb4 Linux
Love it but I need my vidya
>>
I think 10 is more secure as 7 is secondary for updates
>>
>>60668341
Nicer small taskbar and virtual desktops.
I don't bother since its not worth jumping into unknown territory when 7 just werks.
>>
10 boots faster for me, at least twice as fast on my SSD. not sure exactly why.
>>
>>60668341
The environment variable editor. Holy shit this update was needed long ago
>>
>>60668341
you forgot ads and forced restarts
>>
>need vidya
It's pretty easy to set up a dual boot, some Linux distro like Mint (ezpz) for whatever and a Windows partition for vidya.
>>
>>60668341
LTSB version solves thoose problems.
>>
>>60671639
>telemetry out the ass
>>
i like the theme, it's just simple and streamlined

(ignoring the godawful metro elements and apps)

>>60671632
i heard people talking about ads before but i never had any. where do you get them? what version? i have win10 pro. never use apps or the new browser ("edge"?) so maybe thats why i dont get ads? idk
>>
>>60671665
the login screen, the start menu
>>
>>60671647
There are hacks to fully disable telemetry.
>>
>>60671673
>having to hack your computer to control it
>>
>>60671673
pure placebo you stupid ape, only a strict as fuck firewall on your router will actually do anything
>>
>>60671673
You mean, you can make registry edits to temporarily disable most forms of surveillance.
>>
Don't laugh please, but I use app store on Windows 10.

Cover, NextgenReaden, Trakter, Guardian, MSN Weather or MyTube are quite god.
>>
>>60671697
Linux Mint has a superior "app store" and it's incredibly easy to install, easier than Windows.
>>
What you don't understand is dx12 is actually used in composition of almost all hardware acceleration elements in the UI and video/music playback. You don't get that with older versions and Linux. So it's just not vidya you're missing out on, it's basically superior hardware acceleration and composition throughout the OS

Get off this board, right this fucking instant.
>>
>>60668341
Still don't get the telemetry hate. Do you go to extraordinary measures to prevent your network administrator at work from accessing your computer?
>>
>>60668341
Download LTSB.
> No app store
> no features
> no Cortana
> no telemetry
>>
>>60671757
>network administrator at work
Microsoft isn't my fucking network admin at work, they're a bunch of fucking cunts that look at my porn while selling all my information to ad companies
>>
>>60671667
i unchecked "Get tips, tricks and suggestions as you use Windows" in the settings + disabled tiles in the start menu. other than that i never saw anything
>>
>>60671757
An IT admin is one thing, having all of your actions and searches tracked on your home computer is quite another.
>>
>>60671697
some apps are useful but the very concept of having two distinct kinds of applications (classic windows programs & metro style apps) with different approaches to GUI, theming, even different context menus etc is just awful.

OSX does this right imo, they have a desktop app store too but there's no distinction, it's all the same standard GUI as it should be in a desktop environment

>>60671818
this so much. it's pretty fucking audacious that we're just supposed to accept this shit.
>>
>>60671840
>dislike the fact they are trying to change that
Want to change that. Are you listening to yourself?
>>
>>60671881
Are you fine with periodic screenshots of your computer being sent to Microsoft (which has been confirmed) in addition to all the other tracking built into Win10?
>>
>>60671840
>with different approaches to GUI, theming, even different context menus etc is just awful.
I think that's their Xth attempt at trying o retire old frameworks. I don't think that they will succeed.

>OSX does this right imo
Apple nuked old apps with OS 10. Imagine the fallout if Microsoft have done the same.
>>
>>60671881
what? i dont follow
>>
>>60671890
>Apple nuked old apps with OS 10
are you talking about OSX? not sure how that's relevant?
>>
>>60671757
If microsoft starts paying me to use Windows 10 then I won't complain, but your argument is fucking stupid
>>
>>60671890
OSX didn't nuke old apps though. It shipped with Classic Mode, which lasted all the way to 2007-ish when the Intel transition came, which then came with Rosetta to maintain compatibility with PPC applications until everything got an Universal Binary version.
>>
>>60668341
>App store
Not a con if it has literally zero impact on your ux. I never go ne\r the app store, it's not a problem.

>>bloated "features" like Cortana
Is trivial to disable and never see ever again.

We've done this a billion times, bro. W7 still works, W10 tries to be something new and, in my opinion, succeeds in most departments. If W7 is still good for you I'd probably just carry on with it. When you have the time and inclination you might as well upgrade to 10. That's it.
>>
>>60672575
i think the guy meant iOS 11 which ends support for 32bit apps. not that thats really relevant at all
>>
>>60671286
hybrid sleep
>>
>>60671675

Ntfs isnt bad, win10 is better for gayming
