Hi. Serious question, pls don't ban me

My isp won't let me use my own router. How do I connect my router (Asus RT-AC68U) to the isp router? I'd like to use it as a range extender or secondary wifi. How to?

Just plug the phone cable into the new router?
>>
>>60655777
No, it doesn't work. I asked them about it and they said they only support their provided router
>>
>>60655720
is your ISP CuckNet?
>>
>>60655720
If you can't access your rented modem/router's settings, you're probably SOL.

There's tutorials online detailing how to set it up, but you'll probably need a power line adapter, and even if that works, it probably won't be very well as they're two different brands. I've done it before with Linksys and Netgear and it was disappointing. I then tried two Linksys routers and it was still pretty garbage. If you can afford to, I'd suggest using a product meant to be a wifi mesh for a large area like Google WiFi/OnHub or Netgear Orbi or whatever other options there are.

Also, it's phone/cable line->modem->router. And ISP is either full of shit or just shit in general and you should look for an alternative.

Plug ethernet from isp router to wan port of your own router
>>
>>60655720
Set the ISP router to bridge mode.
>>

pretty much this.
set the ISP router to bridged mode if it has one. otherwise the closest you'll get is setting a static IP on your router/reserving it in DHCP and pointing the DMZ on ISP router to that IP. Also if not bridged make sure they don't use the same LAN subnet or it might get confused.
>>
>>60655720
Try changing mac address of your router to address of your provider's router
>>
>>60655789
Not supported =/= will not work
>>
Step 1: Acquire OpenWRT compliant router.

Step 2: Connect an ethernet cable from the WAN port (where internet comes in) on your OpenWRT router to one of the LAN ports (where the internet goes to your computer) on your ISP's router.

Step 3: Configure OpenWRT as a bridge (google it you useless sack of shit) between your ISP's network (if you don't have admin on the router it's not your network) and your new uncucked network.

Step 4: Kill yourself for being a fucking idiot.

>tfw my ISP let's me use any modem I want as long as it's DOCSIS 3.1 compliant and doesn't give a fuck what I do below that

>it's phone/cable line->modem->router

What ISP? Over here Cabovisão does the same shit and it's fucking hell, when I was working repair around 90% of the people complaining about connection issues were Cabovisão clients.
