Why wouldn't you buy Threadripped instead?

I would
but my 5960x is still good enough for pretty much everything
I finally understand why so many people want AMD to be doing well. I think they're both shitty companies now, don't get me wrong. Intel are jews and AMD are poo in loos. So you have to choose between satan and the devil. But at least AMD has competitive pricing for 80% of the performance of an Intel CPU.

>>60655796
You guys are fucking retarded. They are a company and in order to run they need to cut costs. This is a relatively expensive product to produce, and switching to TIM easily saves them upwards of 20 bucks per unit. Do you know how much money that is? 100,000 units x $20 = 2 MILLION dollars. That easily covers the salary of 250 workers a year in Asian based factories. They have that right. Consumers like yourself are downright greedy, pitching a fit over 20C and a measly 500 MHz.
Go fuck yourself.

hhahahahaha wtf Intel is fucked
>>60655219
Funny thing is AMD can easily add another 8 core CCX to make a 24 core consumer processor. This Intel processor is some shitty rebranded server processor with cores welded off cause it failed quality control.
The yield rates on these Intel processors will be absurdly bad, cause they have to get all the cores printed perfect on one die, whereas AMD can just print a bunch of smaller 8 core CCXs and joint them together, so it's infinitely scalable.
>>60655617
I'm afraid this board is cancer itself...
>>60656663
It only scales well up to 32 I think, for now. Later 48+ will be possible.
>>60655219
7820X vs 1800X
>>60656527
>They are a company and in order to run they need to cut costs.
Is that why you can get a Ryzen 1800X that competes with an Intel 6950X for one third of the cost ($500 vs $1500)?
Intel are massive Jews that rip everyone off. AMD has finally bent them over and fucked them in the ass. They won't be recovering for a long time.
>>60655219

>>60656527

>>60656663

INTEL HOUSE FIRES INCOMING
>>60655796
What were they thinking
>>60655796
Soldered CPUs are botnet.
>>60656527
tfw they took the bait
>>60656704
No they aren't. AMD processors are 8 core CCXs welding together. so the 16 core threadripper is two perfect CCXs welded together.
This makes it much easier to scale up, they can just add another CCX. They don't have to print one giant 16 core processor in one go, like Intel do, so they have much higher yield rates and their processors are much cheaper to produce.
>>60656663
Intel only care about having their equivalent core count processors beat AMDs, even if they're significantly more expensive, just so they can say that their stuff is still the "best", which will attract customers to buy their 18 core monsters
>>60656527
>>60656704
EpyC/Naples should be binned better than threadripper.

AMD will just come out with a 24 core and it will be more powerful than Intel's, and cheaper. Intel can't scale up though.

>>60656704
Threadripper and Epyc are made up of 8 core Zeppelin dies put together on an interposer and infinity fabric. They have a 80% yield on fully functional dies.
AMD I think will segment each core count chip into two SKUs. One that has dies that have been binned for maximum power efficiency while the other has dies binned for maximum clocks at reasonable voltages/temps. So something like 16c w/ 3.0ghz base and 3.6ghz boost for super low power around ~130W TDP. Then there could be a 16c w/ 3.6ghz base and 4.0ghz boost @ 180w TDP.
>>60658983
>Then there could be a 16c w/ 3.6ghz base and 4.0ghz boost @ 180w TDP.
Intel literally preparing automated external defibrillator
>>60658855
We already knew their old excuse was bullshit because they'd soldered smaller chips before.
>>60655647
It is a "rejected" server-grade Xeon chip. 18-core is stupid for HEDT market. You go with 16/12 cores at most. 8-10 cores are more ideal because of "Megahurtz" matters more with HEDT workloads when are dealing with 8-10 cores and adding mores yields little returns.
>>60657765
my god am I watching history repeat itself
>>60658965
The "Expensive Edition" is at least 180TDP with watercooling "recommended at a minimum".
>>60659108
That's only for XE i9s which are server-grade "Skylake-X Xeon" rejects.
Most of the i7-i9 Skylake-X line-up (8-12 cores) will have more sane cooling requirements.
>>60658913
>But quit your bait, we know those are not the real costs of cou components.
It's actually very, very close.
>>60659143
Depends on clocks, a 12 core at 3.4GHz will use more power than 18 core at 2.8GHz
I guarantee it.
>>60658965
Intel marketing is just being arrogent and stupid.
They think the Core brand holds enough weight and carries over to HEDT market (Protip: it doesn't).
i9 family is going to have a hell of a time selling unless Intel cuts prices (AMD is going to undercut them badly with Threadripper)
i7-7800 and i7-7820 are only SKUs that make sense.
>>60655219
Wow a 2000$ cpu from intel! AMD most surely be on suicide wotch. Haha. With this is uncompetable, rigth?.
>>60655219
so is the I9 just a renamed I7 extreme?
>>60659170
That 18 core Skylake-X chip at 2.8Ghz would have been sold as "Xeon" rather than XE chip (clocked to 3.2Ghz).
I have a feeling that intel will be the new apple
Expensive non sense which only shitheads end up buying
Are people so sure that the 18 core i9s will be clocked so much lower that the equivalent top end threadripper that there won't be much of a performance gap? Intel can probably squeeze out a 5-10% IPC improvement since they clearly don't care about keeping TDP down
>>60659204
Xeon chips go up to 205W, Skylake-X is 165W
Big difference, hence lower clocks.
>>60659239
>Intel can probably squeeze out a 5-10% IPC
Only for loops that fir in larger L2. And it would also retroactively benefit Zen.
>>60659239
>Intel can probably squeeze out a 5-10% IPC
Out of a 10 years old architecture where they already improved near as much as they could?
>>60659239
Look at the 12 core.. it's 3.3 base clock, that's already lower than 3.5/3.6GHz base clock of threadripper.
And that's 6 cores less.
Their Skylake Xeon 18 core is also clocked around 2.7GHz
So unless they want literal housefires, they won't go crazy on those clocks.
Also as for IPC, see
https://i.4cdn.org/g/1496150956502.jpg
Which the 10 core Skylake-X is only 10% faster than Broadwell-E 10 core, mostly due to 10% higher clocks.
Barely any IPC difference unless the code fits into the L2, most case it doesn't.
>>60659239
And AMD can release a 24 or 32 core monster and take Intel outback behind the shed. Infinity fabric is great isnt it? Just stick another die on there and call it a day :^)
>>60659239
Intel doesn't have Infinity Fabric, intel is fucked
>>60659239
>Intel can probably squeeze out a 5-10% IPC improvement since they clearly don't care about keeping TDP down
But are they unlocked?
Everything Zen is ready to go head to head. Considering they're $1000+ cpu's. Judging them solely on box clocks isn't the be all and end all.
Then there's power draw, and heat.
Power isn't cheap anymore. Heat you can somewhat get away with given what setting these should be mostly used in.
From figures mentioned. It's looking really bad for intel.
No one in their right mind will throw that much money at a CPU and cooler, as well as monthly power bills being +$100ish for a few percentage points of performance gains over the other option. It would have to be some seriously time constrained work, or extremity profitable to mitigate this.
>>60659239
It's going to be 2.8 GHz base, tops. 16 core Threadripper at 3.6 GHz will shit all over it.
>>60659371
Not to mention Threadripper will have a lower TDP and be significantly easier to keep cool due to the seperate dies, soldered IHS, etc.
Pic related is Epyc, Threadripper is only two dies, but you get the idea.
>>60659108
The only thing that would make this better is if the codename started with "P".
