You can de-lid for more overclocking. Remove cpu heatsink. Put some high end thermal paste. Cover it back up. Gets an average of 10-12 degrees Celsius cooler.
>>
>>60651932
I read the report about the cracking.
All they did was try and reduce the gold thickness.
Nothing about trying a new solder or heat regulation to fix the issue. That totally wasn't cause by skimping on gold in the first place.
Don't think too hard about why the pins went from the chips either.

Rather than using solder as the heat transference material between the die and the Integrated Heat Spreader on the CPU, Intel has, in recent years, use a low-quality thermal compound instead. The result of this is higher temperatures at lower clocks than would happen if it had been soldered.

As such, the process of 'delidding' made its first major appearance with the Ivy Bridge processor line, and basically had people carving or knocking the IHS off the top of the processor and manually replacing the shitty thermal compound with something better like a liquid metal thermal solution.

It voids warranty, but it does result in drastically reduced temperatures, even on air.

As I said, as long as you are not outside of the specified range of temperatures for the CPU. Usually overclocked CPUs will crap out for a non-thermal reason before you reach this limit.

Most people are far too nervous about their CPU temps and think if they aren't constantly at least 20 degrees under the limit they're running too hot. It's needless worry. The "safe zone" is called that for a reason.

They're just crippling them to try and make people buy (((xeons))). Review sites will be sent samples just to try and retain intel being able to claim to having the fastest consumer CPU.

there we go
>>
Let me get this straight.

>Intel
>More cores
>Higher IPC
>Higher price
>Fewer PCI-E lanes
>Fewer USB ports, Sata ports etc.
>Thermal paste IHS

>AMD
>Less cores
>Lower IPC
>Lower price
>More PCI-E lanes
>More USB ports, Sata ports etc.
>Soldered IHS

Also, the IHS on the Threadripper is fuckhuge so it's going to transfer heat much better than the Skylake-X IHS.
>>
>>60656030
do you really think intel's 18 cores with shitty clockspeeds can compete with amd's 16 cores at 3.5GHz?
>>
>>60656030
Pretty sure they're about equal for IPC. AMD is also less power hungry.
>>
>>60656048
I'm confident that the most expensive Threadripper will also have shitty clockspeeds so it all evens out.

The most interesting thing is price. If AMD can release a 10-core Threadripper for $799 or around there that would be amazing.
>>
>>60656027
>8 cores
>140w TDP

BWHAHHAAAHA HOLY SHIT
HOW THE FUCK CAN INTEL BE SO BAD AT THIS SHIT?
AMD DON'T EVEN MANAGE 100W TDP FROM 8 CORES
>>
>>60656057
threadripper has 2 separate dies and is using B2 stepping chips, these two things mean that they can dissipate heat a lot better and have lower voltages than the 1800X at similar clocks respectively
>>
>>60656090
Pretty sure Threadripper has 4 separate dies and not 2 under the IHS, right?
>>
>>60655990
From the sounds of it, it better tunes voltage and frequency so it's probably getting better all-core clocks and better getting a heavily loaded core to that Max clock even when light load is on others.
>>
>>60656101
threadripper has 2, Epyc (naples) has 4

You /g/uys are programmed to think above 80c is "house fire" tier or whatever, but in truth the chips can run much hotter and be fine, it is a feature. They put out a chip with the highest single core performance, factory clocked to 4.2 ghz and 91w, it's gonna get hot. So they made sure it could handle the heat. If they made the same chip that throttles at 85c, then meme it. I don't get this AMD vs Intel team shit.

60c temps? What do you need 70c temps for? Everyone knows 80c temps are perfectly acceptable. Help! Police! This goy is trying to shoah me over a mere 90c CPU temp! You be hearing from my lawyers over the 50c under load you still owe me!

What the fuck was Ryzen doing there before that patch? That's like a 100% increase.

As for the others, the minimums shot up significantly but averages less so.

Man, Zen is fucking awesome.

Literally who cares? Who is buying a new PC in 2017 to play at 1080p? Scrubs, that's who.

>I'll keep my i5 3570k for now.
A 1600X would absolutely shit all over that old-ass i5. 110% faster multicore performance even when accounting for overclock.
