They surely even just wanted the obvious type of code (often with methods over 1000 years old), not the optimal variants to generate primes that were actually complex to figure out.

this one's tricky off-hand if you haven't looked at the Sieve of Eratosthenes before (shit, I haven't had to generate primes ever, so I forgot this existed despite it being a fairly common benchmark)
there's better ways probably, but this one is fairly low-effort to implement
