At least MacBooks come with the proper trackpad settings installed. My dad's Windows needed me to literally go into the settings and switch on "improve trackpad accuracy" to get a semblance of mouse acceleration. It's like Microsoft WANTS people to go "Mac just works." Because it does.

My HP's cooling system failed in a year. My Lenovo has had two HDD failures until I got an SSD. My mid-2012 Macbook Air was bought secondhand for $500 and hasn't had a single problem minus a worn out battery. It's light, fast, and just works.

At this point, it's just outdated. It's still a nice ultrabook for someone who doesn't care if it has the absolute latest, or if the screen is sub-par. If it had a current intel cpu, a 1080p or higher IPS-LCD display, and a usb type-C/TB3 port, then it would be perfectly respectable imo.

I got this as a gift from my family.

Never even thought I'd actually use a mac. After a few months I've gotten used to it and it kinda just werks. The overheating doesn't bother me that much and I can play CS:go on this so whatever.

My other option is taking it in for a service to change the battery ("just" getting 5-6 hours these days) and maybe clean the fans out.
