I would simply like to correct you for one second. What you're alluding to as Linux, is in actuality, GNU/Linux, or as I have of late taken to calling it, GNU and Linux. I have a 2007 Macbook, anything newer than Snow Leopard is literally unusable even though the hardware should have no trouble running it.
