Playing 1080p 60fps video in VLC using streamlink I use ~12% CPU on my i7-2600K. I haven't fucked with the "skip the loop filter" settings but I assume that could reduce CPU usage even more.

livestreamer still works.
Although for vods you need to change the URL manually since it'll come out as
<server>/videos/<code> so you need to change it to <server>/<twitch streamer>/v/<code> before putting it into livestreamer.

I really should just fix this in livestreamer myself but too lazy.

I used to watch Twitch streams without any issue on my shitty laptop I got for 400€ in 2014.
Then the HDD got almost completely filled and I disabled the paging file, and it started to be unusable.

Maybe you have some bottleneck other than the CPU.

I just got a 1600X instead.

1080p60fps streams only use <1.5% CPU.
Never had a problem with youtube on my 2500k, though, it was just twitch that'd use an entire core on it and lag.

Even if something uses a lot of one thread, it doesn't lag the rest of my computer, which always happened with my i5-2500k. Even just 30% CPU usage could feel so slow on my 2500k because 25% is one core that was used.
