1600x is factory overclocked, it requires beefier cooling because it creates more heat. If you overclock your 1600 to same numbers it'll run just as hot as the x model.

The 1600 is not guranteed to hit 4.0ghz and the 1600X is. The 1600 also comes with a cooler while the 1600X does not. The whole point of the "X" is to make it clear which versions of the chip were meant for overclockers who want to push the limits of their chips with their own cooling setup.

Okay my real issue is i'm easily convinced by advertisement and somehow got convinced that 95W TDP can overclock much higher

while a 65W TDP Ryzen 1600 overclocked at 1600X speed, I've read a lot of review about it and how it works just fine with stock cooler and can hit 4.05GHz with proper cooling

I need you guys to convince me that 1600 is better than 1600X in term of bang for the buck

1600 is better because it's the same CPU for a cheaper price. Chances are that you can clock to the same speed as a 1600x with around the same voltages unless you just completely lose the silicon lottery. If you're lucky you might get a CPU that can oc past the 1600x.


Me I'd take my chances with the 1600, but that's just what I would do personally.

This isn't necessarily true. It just guarantees what speed it's at out of the box without having to manually oc.

Even back in the phenom ii, and fx days the 1100t, and fx9590 being the top of their lines weren't really the best overclockers of their series'.

You're gambling.

Most of AMD's processors work at high voltage and can be OC'd just fine. If AMD finds one that can't, then they clock it down and sell it as a cheaper model. This doesn't mean all of the cheaper models can't be overclocked, it just means that some of the cheaper models can't, and they won't tell you which is which.

It really depends on the game (not sure what games/software you're interested in using), but general consensus is that ryzen responds extremely well to faster ram (3200mhz+).

The 1600x comes with manufacturers gurantee that it'll hit those speeds without issues, but otherwise you're correct.
