I got a professional grade Nec 1200p monitor like 6 years ago.
Today I need a brand new monitor and 1440p ones are around 400€ still, and that's the budget stuff.

I presently have a "high end" $700 matte display next to a glossy Dell IPS I paid like $150 for and the Dell looks more saturated and vibrant in every lighting situation. It's pretty hilarious.

Actually the glossy screen is in relatively similar lighting conditions, hence the reflection. If it was actually in the dark there would be no reflection.

Even accepting your thing as true, that's what matte monitors are supposed to be good for and that's the result. I would much rather deal with reflections during dark scenes than not be able to see anything at all because of the way the matte coating disperses the light.

that's the thing, 21:9 is straight up ignored or forgotten about. i've heard certain games don't support ultrawide for 'competitions sake' (as in the extra space would be an unfair advantage). sometimes the FOV or even animations are fucked up with the way things are drawn in on the far sides of the screen. i don't really blame them, they designed for 16:9

Depends on what games you play. There's this meme out there that a lot of cards will get you to 144+ FPS in the majority of modern games(seriously, you see this posted in monitor threads on /g/ all the time), but it's not true a lot of the time. If you play a lot of console ports, those are usually still locked at 60 FPS too.

If you play a ton of Counter Strike or other E-Sports orientated titles that tend to be easy to run and you want every advantage possible, then yeah, it makes a legitimately huge difference.

Basically, if you have the GPU power to push more than 100 frames around in the types of games you play and are committed to maintaining that, get a 144hz monitor.
