how does tlc-based psuedo-slc caching work? Is it always flushing from the upper layer to the lower ones even while writing or only when the drive is relatively idle? Or is it when the controller is at low enough utilization? I understand leaving the drive alone 'for awhile' is long enough to completely flush the cache but when does this process begin, and when does it end? Thanks.
Pls Respond

nobody here actually knows technology. it's all /v/-tier brandfags and a few code monkeys

Without actually knowing for sure, I'd be surprised if your answer doesn't entirely depend on whoever wrote the drive's firmware, and that those details aren't and never will be public.

When the flash drive is idle or the cache is full.
By idle probably samsung means "there's a time out thing".
