How will "Common Sense 2017™" protect you from malware you don't have to do anything wrong to get?

Having updated software is common sense you retard.

Won't that put Microsoft telemetry software on your computer?
>>

Yes but Common Sense would be to use GNU/Linux instead of Microsoft

>Having updated software is common sense you retard.
By the definition, ZERO DAYS are unpatched you fucking shithead.

And Zero Days are out there right now. You can get pwned by governments if you're a target.

And there's plenty of zero days that we don't know about that's being exploited by criminals. You can even buy them if you have a lot of money.

Common Sense is fucking nonsense and a meme.
>>
Because the initial infection comes from user action on a phishing email, which involves common sense.

Idiot
>>
>>60485118
Common sense is to not have SMBv1 exposed on the internet. That means that someone without common sense would need to run malware on your network to be affected.
>>
>Required open ports or an infected computer on your network
>And outdated software
Easy, just don't open ports you you shouldn't open, don't have infected hardware on your network, update your software, and backup in case there's malware that does evade common sense 2017 (though backing up is common sense as well, so really it's foolproof).
>>60485286
>By the definition, ZERO DAYS are unpatched you fucking shithead.
OP wasn't talking about zero days then, considering he clearly implied wannacry, something that was patched.
>>
>>60485286
yes but the thing OP brought up isnt a 0 day and even so there is literally nothing you can do about 0 days no anti virus is going to be able to protect against them any better than microsoft update
>>
>>60485287
Or connecting to a network that's been compromised. For example, a fast food joint's wifi, hospital wifi, etc.
>>
Has there been any relevant variation of the first wannacry version so far?
>>

That's fucking stupid anyway.

Full retard post.

Common Sense can still protect you from most zero day exploits by simply not doing the thing that enables them.
>>
>>60485514
He points out that newer version are shit, implying older are not.
Older are as shit as newer in case of windows pas XP.
He is a retard
>>
>>60485808
>by simply not doing the thing that enables them.
You're a fucking idiot. RCE usually doesn't require any user action. ETERNALBLUE doesn't require any user action either.
>>
>>60485917
I'm not familiar with RCE, but Eternal Blue/Wannacry requires you to be running Windows. You can choose not to do that.
>>
>>60485286
>ZERO DAYS are unpatched you fucking shithead.
and you think AV will protect you from zero days?
You know they rely on definitions, right?
>>
Not doing anything valuable on windows. My windows drive is just for vidya.

Found the retard who doesn't know how modern endpoint protection systems work but is happy to tell people not to use them.

Not having smb1 open and facing the internet is common sense you absolute retard. Anyone with a competent firewall and doesn't run random executables linked to them from Nigerian princes is fine.
>>
>>60485217

linux port coming soon™
>>
>>60485917
Yeah, but Wannacry was a SMB exploit, so unless you are an absolute mong and face your SMB 1 service to the public internet, it was impossible to get hit without some action on your own.

NAT routers in every home and web based email basically extinguished the worm as we knew it.

>be tech illiterate
>use windows (because you're tech illiterate)

What you did wrong here was use a system you don't understand. You need to be responsible enough to protect yourself when using Windows. Or at the very least buy a fucking mac if you don't care enough to learn how your system works, because at least no one writes viruses for macs.
>>
>>60486568
>use windows (because you're tech illiterate)
>get infected

You're missing a critical step here. The only way a windows machine could get infected is if it's SMB service was accessible by another infected machine. Logically, your home network would be clean and remain clean (due to NAT at the router), unless you connected a wannacry infected computer to your LAN, or ran some executable that you shouldn't have.

Is there a archive of ransomware messages they give to the user or something?

I always found it funny they pretend to be the FBI and they found CP on your computer. Or they're a professional company and they're doing you a favor by encrypting all your files.
>>
>>60487778
I know the shitty scareware back in the day would say something to the effect of:

"FBI COMPUTER CRIMES DIVISION"
"YOUR ACTIVITIES ARE BEING MONITORED, EVERY PHOTO, EVERY POST, EVERY VIDEO IS SAVED..."
"PAY THIS $100 FEE OR RISK CRIMINAL CHARGES"

I also seem to remember some of them mentioning wife and kids, obviously targeting middle aged men who visited malicious sites when trying to wack it.
Can't let Deb know that you've been watching the 'nography!
