Why do you need to socially identify with your operating system?

It is merely a tool to accommodate my usage needs. In Linux I can make it do what I need it to do.

It is not a movement, it is not a counter culture. It is an operating system that lets me interact with my hardware that I own. When you no longer control the software, you no longer control the hardware.

That is where Linux as a tool becomes increasingly beneficial. I don't need to opt out of telemetry functions that are critical to Microsoft/Apple/Google, that means nothing to me except compromises my security, my freedom so they can understand my usage habits, and scan my files for "unapproved" software.

"Just works" is great. But I don't need it to "Just work". I need it to work with in the parameters I demand. With out big brother interference. So if I have to tweak somethings, so be it.
