I built my PC in 2012 and I've changed nothing but the GPU. Still plays all games at ultra settings and will continue to for a long time because CPUs aren't getting anymore powerful. The only other thing that would need upgrading is the ram.

Get an SSD boot drive, but don't nuke your current install. Instead, disconnect current drive, install fresh on SSD, then reconnect current drive which will not only have your existing files but be an optional boot drive if ever needed.

SSDs are love. So are desktops. Much love for my notebooks but desktops shit all over the crippled ergonomics and tiny, pathetic screens of notebooks so why not have both?

I built a $900 pc about 4 years ago and I'm just starting to feel like it needs an upgrade. Its running an fx6300 with a gtx760 and I feel that performance is still just about the same as when I bought it. Still plays high end games on medium and medium end games on ultra. It still vastly outperforms a $1000 laptop I bought six months ago.

I kind of regret having bought prebuilts in the past, I feel like they became obsolete at twice the rate

If I had to set up my SSD boot drive all over again I would have a redundant hdd also with a backup of the ssd fresh after installing OS and main programs.

I've started to get the occasional but rare bsod crash and I have a hunch its because of the ssd, if I had a backup from early on I would feel MUCH more comfortable about using the SSD until it fails more significantly

but to be frank, its performs the same as it did when it was brand new. Even with the newer wave of games. It was never a high end cpu but it has consistently got the job done and still does.

I'm looking to upgrade cpu/gpu/psu/mobo/and ram all at once.
Since thats almost every part, I'll probably just build a new pc from components, and use my old pc as a htpc or something
