Data hoarders, how do you backup your stuff?
I have 16GB of data I want to backup. I dunno if I should buy four 4TB HDDs or something to accomplish this.

Upload everything to the cloud.
16 subscriptions of OneDrive 1TB plans. xD

Not feasible with my slow-ass Canadian internet.

If you want to lose everything, do exactly what you plan on doing.
The cheapest setup would be 5x6TB in RAID6 if you want redundancy / maximized space per $. 6TB drives go on sale for <$200 pretty regularly if you're American. mdadm can grow a RAID6 array too, so you can expand on it if you feel the need.
It's not really worthwhile to backup 16TB of media, so I'd just take the really critical personal files, put them in a fire safe on a set of rotating drives dedicated for the task, and keep them there while doing weeklies. Unless you somehow managed to acquire 16TB of business-critical database dumps or something.

Invest in a proper server(NAS). Then, go to eBay, and pick up a Google non profit account for like 5$(USD) and use Rsync, which encrypts your data, and uploads to the Google account. The non profit account has unlimited storage, some people have 100TB+ on their accounts.
If you don't trust the cloud Jew, buy another server and put it somewhere off site, or keep it at your house. (Off-site is ideal)
Check WD student store for cheap drives.

Rclone, not Rsync. My bad

the solution is simple. host a server and provide access to us
