He's right. I have a nexus 9. It's hot garbage. And the shield has a tegra chip, so expect shit battery life and getting the surface of the tablet to a toasty 110 degrees. As much as I hate apple, the iPad is the only non-garbage tablet hardware wise. That or the surface line, but they tend to be more expensive than the iPad.

Kindle Fire HD 8 is a great choice. I use it for ebooks, youtube, anime, and emulators. Also has good battery life. Just remember to install the Play Store because the Amazon app store is trash.

Reading and watching stuff. That's it. Watch anything on Twitch, Netflix or youtube and the piece of shit gets extremely hot. And from what I saw on XDA, most of them, including mine, develop a hardware bug where the tablet crashes if the battery reaches 30% or less. Which is 2 hours watching videos.

I suppose Android's advantage lies in choice, so OP should just avoid Nexus and look into other highly-regarded tablets.

The nexus 9 was regarded as the best android tablet when it came out. I'm pretty sure it's still the only android tablet that comes close to the iPad's ppi.

Check an unecrypting tool on XDA. Apparently, the encryption is partly what makes it disgustingly slow.

I had a 300€ samsung tablet, now i have the 50€ amazon tablet running cm. Only difference is screen resolution and i dont even give a shit. The 2 things i do with my tablet it does them equally well.

If i wasnt a content poorfag i would go for an nvidia shield. Those front facing speakers would be worth an upgrade.
