Anything that magicforce makes looks very similar, minus the plastic bottom case. The whole RGB and floating keycaps stuff makes it look like cheap chinkshit.
I don't see what's so alluring about that board, it's just a TKL with RGB lighting. I'd rather get a ducky if I wanted fancy lights. Sure this k-type thing has some nice features, but that doesn't stop it from being overpriced and ugly as shit.

What should I get with Yuri? I kinda want icon mods cause they're cool, kinda want a dox kit to do a dox.
By the time it shows up I'll have 3 or 4 60%, a TKL, a 96 key, a 65% and a 40%. I don't really know what other "normal" layout I even need, but I honestly don't really think the dox is that great. And if I don't like it, then I have the awesome Keyset without icon mods or anything cool like that.
What do /mkg/
>>60441872
In any hobby/interest with actual substance, you would be ridiculed for something like that. In the context of music for example - owning a very expensive instrument and being unable to play it well is seen as retarded. Particularly retarded if you talk about it and draw attention to that instrument. It's cool if a kid inherits a nice instrument from their family member or something, but a dipshit going out of his way to buy something expensive because he feels he needs it before he can string a few chords together is ridiculous.
If said dipshit said something like "I can afford it, why the hell not?", he'd still be ridiculed, because musicians know how useless the advantages of a good quality instrument are in the hands of someone who plays poorly. If he actually resorted to something mind-numbingly stupid like implying that these dissenting voices are "jealous poorfags" -- well, I know of some circles where said dipshit would be deemed so intolerably stupid so as to be promptly beaten up.
But in the world of mech keebs, you got a 60 WPM snail diving straight for a topre board and this is seen as completely normal. Congrats man! Nice cop, wish I had one! Typing speed and consistency is rarely even talked about, it's like a sideshow to what really matters - buying shit over and over again with barely any idea as to why.
Meanwhile, most typists barely even care which keyboard they're using, they'll type on whatever. Probably unaware of the zillion-and-one dumb layouts, unaware of custom keycaps and their various profiles and certainly unaware of "artisan" caps, which is something even 4chan dweebs renounce as incredibly stupid. How many typists know or care what a fucking "zealio" is? There are grannies out there out-typing you on scissors switches and the most they could muster at this bizarre hobby is a confused smile.
Got respect for peeps who make their own boards, the rest of this scene is quite evidently a passing fad with no real value.
Since GMK carbon is dropping after yuri, my worry is that they will jack up the prices since it was the most popular gmk set.
>>60445777

>>60445777
>owning a very expensive instrument and being unable to play it well is seen as retarded
i'll buy an expensive instrument if i want to. who cares what neckbeards like you think about it? and mechanical keyboards aren't even expensive. you can get a quite decent one for $30-100. sour grapes much?
i do agree that someone in this "hobby" should know how to touch type, but why are you assuming that it's all about typing speed. it's more about ergonomics and customization and such.

>>60444393
I could use your advice /mkg/ Ive been spending a ton of time on massdrop and amazon looking at stuff. trying to find the right thing for me:
* up to $300
* low profile base (flush w/ keys) preferred metal
* full-sized (numpad nice but optional)
* mx cherry brown
* dye cast keys
* no backlight or colorful leds
* preferably a solid color
* primary use is for programming/coding
Ive been looking at some of the majestouch boards as well as leopolds and like the look of them. it would be nicer to find something full sized with a base similar to the vortex core that has that spartan look.
there is also a part of me that wants to find a model M with the numpad and some RGB keys for it but thats another story
>>60428011

Fuck that was disappointing. I'm in medical too, those keycaps would be perfect. Guess we are never going to see a second drop for pulse keycaps. Just fuck my shit up.
>>60447735
If you want a model M with RGB keys them just go buy one. It would run you like 80 bucks for a new keyboard and the keys would be another 7.
>>60447900
I know, Im probably going to just so that I have it but I still want to see if there is something modern that is more minimalist I can use at the office. i think mx browns are generally a bit quieter over all compared to the model M springs right?
>>60447967
They are, but just know that the sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuating mechanism of the switch. With your requirements:
>low profile base (flush w/ keys) preferred metal
Your browns will be even louder then a Filco with blues
>>60448034
noise level aside, are you guys aware of anything that fits the profile? Im sort of leaning towards leopolds atm
>>60448176
there are plenty of keyboards that do. If you want something minimalistic why not get a Ducky One with dye-sub PBT keycaps?

Yeah, but if your posture is shit, or you rest your wrists on the table or a wrist rest you are doing it wrong. The fact that flipping the spacebar feels better should be a warning sign.
Why the fuck is it so hard to find a white, ISO layout brown-switch tenkeyless keyboard? I've been looking everywhere but every white keyboard I can find has the ANSI layout.
>>60450913
Ducky One TKL comes in white and has option for MX Browns, but it does have increased price due to the RGBmeme.
>>60450851
fuck off, you're the one with the shitty posture. the bottom row is sculpted for your fingers, not for your thumbs. the keys should be angled away from your fingers, but if you have the posture you suggest (to align the thumbs with a non-flipped spacebar) the keys become angled toward you which is absolutely disgusting.
Does anyone here have experience with the Noppoo EC108 or any of it's derivatives? I've tried one of the Korean rebrands in 55g weight and it feels pretty damn similar to Topre, and I'd like to get one with the rgb lightings as much cheaper alternative to realforce rgb.
Check it, /mkg/, I basically finished my split TKL case (just need to cut the bottom plate still, which will be trivial)

it's not my favorite layout, just pointing out that split spacebars are becoming more common, but i don't think it's that bad, it's a symmetrical 0.75u gap, you won't have to strain your pinkies to reach the bottom corners and your palms can be closer to the keyboard, the corner gaps are similar to the hhkb layout
>>60451199
Thanks, yeah, the clear acrylic looks pretty sweet. I was able to laser cut it myself, since my school gives us laser cutter access and all the acrylic you ask for (being a grad student may not bring in much cash, so I've gotta milk that for all it's worth).
Acrylic has a couple issues for keyboards, honestly. The biggest problem is that you need to use 5mm stuff for sufficient stability and strength of the switch plate, but all cherry-compatible switches and accessories expect 1.5mm plates. So, I'll need to use modified costar stabilizers, and hand wiring, since a PCB wouldn't be able to rest against the bottom of the switch really well (see the pic, where I've put in a few switches).
The other big issue is that the clips on the sides of the switches won't actually attach to the plate. Some people solve this on acrylic by using a 1.5mm plate epoxied to a thicker support plate, but I'll probably just glue down my switches (you wouldn't really *need* to secure them down, except for when you try to pull off the keycaps you risk breaking circuitry if you don't).
I'm using MX clear switches, since I type like deaf Beethoven trying to hear his piano and love a firm keypress.
On another note, before someone calls me out on it, the only reason that cheap dell rubberdome is in the pictures is because my model M is being repaired ATM...

>>60451333
Yes and with proper posture it has no trouble coming straight down on the top of the bar, pressing it with the side of the thumb tip towards the knuckle. Space bars are even convex among this contact surface to accommodate this very motion.
>>60453336
even if you have shit shoulder posture and your forearms are parallel to the desk, the spacebar is angled away from you and you hit the edge of the spacebar. flipped spacebar is more comfortable

with cherry/OEM profile the spacebar is angled away from you quite severely. it's not as much of a problem with DSA profile. as i wrote in >>60450119, i think the spacebar should be flat or angled toward you, but not angled away from you, so in this sense i "agree" with DSA profile and you're being ignorant of the cherry/OEM spacebar situation.
>>60453477
>Concave 1u row diagram
>anything to do with the space bar
Space bars are convex and at a neutral angle relative to the case. They are literally designed specifically to comfortably fit the curve of the knuckle when you are exercising proper typing posture.
Look, it's one thing if you can't type correctly and feel the need to fuck with your cap placement but don't encourage other people to emulate your unhealthy habits.

Im thinking on getting one of the Razer Blackwidow keyboards, problem i have is, deciding between two i want
(ive lurked hardcore and tested switches and own a switch tester etc etc , currently using a heavily modified Non-RGB corsair k95 i got for free off a friend )
ive typed on the blackwidow ultimateb and love the clickyness, i hate the reds my k95 has and was thinking of just ordering gateron blues, although i want the full RGB experience so im gonna be a poorfag and pay around 50-80 dollars on ebay like the faggot i am
but the main question i have here is Black widow Ultimate or Black widow Tournament Edition
The Tournament edition i solely want it just because it has a standard layout and i can change the keycaps, yet ill be loosing the macros and numpoad
Ultimate Edition ill have the numpad and can still change keycaps except the terrible bottom row, what do you guys think i should do?

You can get the TKL versions for 80 bucks, but they are all sold out. The problem with Ducky is that since they are so popular they raised the prices on some of their keyboards. Granted, I haven't paid attention to them because it's a massive fucking meme and their quality dropped really hard, but if they're still using greetech you're literally just as well off buying a $30-40 chink otemu switch board, and much better off buying a $50 chink gateron board.
>>60456350
They only have one keyboard that uses cherry switches, and that is the original 4 pro. The new mac pro and tkl one use greetech. The worst bit though is that that all have shitty thin pad printed ABS keycaps.
there has to be a way to make these keyboards cheaper
most of these prices are obscene

>>60456938

What, the solder sucker? It sucks solder.
>>60457347
>if I can't listening the click, do you think that something is broke? or just a little piece out on his place?
The clicker is just a plastic sleeve around the plunger. It may have just gotten stuck. Depending on how the switches are mounted you may be able to open them without even desoldering.
Speaking of soldering, would it be possible to swap out Cherry RGB for some other Cherry Switch + the old single style LED? The light spill of this shitty RGB meme annoys the shit out of me.
>>60456938

>>60457665
or would it be easier to just paint these shitty clear cases black?
>>60457673
Their website sland amazon says gaote. Of course if you bothered to use google or even go onto the amazon page you would have found out the answer.
>>60457665
If the PCB has the extra pins then yes.
>>60457665
No. The SMD RGB LEDs physically take up the space on the PCB where LEDs would go
>>60457841
>>60457907
Fuck I realized Cherry RGB only has 2 pins total and since the Ducky Pocket was completely built around Cherry RGB, getting anything to work would be near impossible. I'll try to to electrical tape on a few switches tomorrow to see how well that seals off the clear casing leaking light and maybe paint over it if that works.
I'm getting my first mechanical keyboard soon but I don't know what kind of switch type to get. I play a lot of games but I also do a decent amount of typing for school, but I'm not sure if I want Red switches or Black switches.
>>60458054
Get a switch tester. Keep it at your desk for a week or so and see what you like.
>>60457907
And it's less of an issue of the SMD LEDs taking up space since I was considering swapping the whole switch out to something like a Kalih RGB switch, but everything else with LEDs added at least 2 extra pins which aren't available for anything designed with Cherry RGB.

central pin is probably plastic no? 2 soldered connections are normal cherry mx pins. old style LEDs add a minimum of 2 pins in addition to standard cherry pins like >>60457841 up to around 4 for RGB LEDs. Not possible to swap out the Cherry RGB (2 pin) to something else with Cherries with LEDs
>>60458734

Received my first mechanical keyboard yesterday... very happy with the money I paid for it. Still getting used to it, to some extent, but I'm quickly getting comfortable with it. Its mostly a matter of the fact that I used my old keyboard for the past four years, so its been a good while and the sizes are ever so slightly different.
After just two hours of using the mech, and then picking up the old rubber dome board just to see what typing on it is like, I could instantly tell the difference and understand why you all praise mech keyboards so much now.
Bloody hell, its just so... clean.
Thanks for the advice I got the other day, I appreciate it.

It could be this, if you had the switch out of the keyboard you could see for yourself.
You can see here there is a white piece attached to stem on clicky switches, I'd open it up and see if something disturbed the 'clicky bit'
What board do you have anyway? Do you have a warrant for it?
Is there TADA68 board good? I'm looking for a board with Gat Blacks in Europe or from China and this is the only somewhat reputable one I've found outside of custom orders from companies like Varmilo.

CM Storm with Cherry Reds
Been looking at the Noppoo Choc mini as well as the pok3r. Really curious about those "silent" cherry red switches as I tend to be up to all hours and my current board is a noisy, rattly pos. Board will mostly be used for gayman. The choc mini has a very attractive layout and the only cons I can find are the non standard sized spacebar. The pok3r is more expensive but I haven't seen anyone saying much bad about it. This might be a retarded question but the pok3r is a floating key design I think? Does that make it louder when in practical use when compared to an enclosed for lack of a better word style board?

Is enjoyPBT good?
>>60463952
EnjoyPBT is the current memecap for good reason, anon. They look great and are cherry profile.
However, I was pretty upset when mine arrived and the numpad enter was warped and would stick. Nothing I wasn't able to fix, but it made me think that, while they're great (and I haven't seen other PBT caps with purple legends), they may not actually be worth quite $80.
>>60463952
They're just gateron keycaps so they are very good. BSP has the original cherry PBT tooling, which is better then anything GMK can make, but they don't do group buys anymore.
>>60463704
Sweet I was not aware of this at all. Do you happen to have any experience with the choc mini? I had been lubing myself up to just bite the bullet and get a pok3r shipped to euroland, but if I can save some cash and still get a good quality board I'm all for it.

>>60464441
>Idk if you're still in the thread

I considered getting the wireless one when I bought this one, but I don't really see much of a point in it unless you're going to use it while you're on the go. This thing is permanently connected to my computer, which doesn't get moved around a whole lot. Even if my workhorse were a laptop, I don't think there's much of a point in getting the wireless one. I don't know about you, but I think most people who do CAD aren't very likely to do it while they're anywhere else but than sitting at a desk with all their work materials around anyway.
tl;dr unless you hate wires I don't see why you'd get the wireless one
