Fuck. Europe.

WHY IS EVERYONE IN EUROPE OK WITH THIS?
>>
>>60444227
noone is okay with it, ask the murricans why they charge 35 fucking dollars to ship a single book.
>>
>>60444227
Its probably some random european tax.

I heard they taxed vacuums that used more than 1400 watts or something.
>>
>>60444253
Yep, all of that is VAT and import duties. I don't know why you Yuros let yourselves get cucked like that either.
>>
>>60444227
learn some basic economics and import tax you dummy
>>
>>60444282
>import tax
Its manufactured in either China or Taiwan. In both cases it would be an import. The evidence thus indicates that Europe has a higher import tax.

you do realise they do not include taxes in their store listed prices in us of a do you?
>>
>>60444227

the mercun price probably doesn't include sales tax.
>>
>>60444227

They don't have to include taxes in the price I think
>>
For me in spoiderland it's cheaper to buy from the US, have it dropped off at a postal proxy, and then sent to ausland for like $50 a drive.
It's still $20 cheaper. Even with the aussie dollar buying 70 US cents.

also what the fuck do you want to buy? 8 TB HDDs start at 250 dollaroo equivalents.
>>
Why aren't HDDs coming down in price? Are SSDs part of the reason?
>>
>>60444841
Well there's also a big loophole in US tax law, the retailer isn't obligated to collect sales taxes from a state if they have no physical presence there. The bricks-and-mortar gang collect it because they have stores everywhere, Amazon fought it until they decided to go with a fast-deliver strategy and build warehouses everywhere. Third-party Amazon sellers generally collect no tax, even the "fulfillment by Amazon" ones. Newegg collects none outside of CA, B&H none outside NY, etc.

idk how this squares with international purchases though. Also note that even high state and local US sales taxes are low (5-10%) compared to Euro VAT and import taxes.
>>
>>60444227
In my European country, the prices averywhere already include the tax. I think that's not the case in the US stores. Maybe that's why the listed prices vary?

Why do people say American stores excludes the tax? They fucking don't. If a product in an American store says $100, then it'll cost you $100 and that's the end of it (excluding shipping).
>>
>>60444227
customer protection laws (warranty and what not)
VAT

I gladly pay extra for my electronics if that means not living in a country with shitty public infrastructure and shitty social security (and thus low social stability and high crime).

You so dumb, you so cuck, you clearly Eurotrash.

Listen to me, Europe does not have low crime rate and the social stability in Europe is fucking SHIT. It's designed so that the middle class no longer exists and so that prices for products go up so that companies can make a huge profit. I'm not going to argue this with you, but holy shit, stop saying dumb things that makes absolutely no sense.

"Social" security, haha.
>>
>>60445478
What? That's simply not true
Depending on the state the item is being sold in, there is no sales tax for online purchases. In those cases that is true. Otherwise, the tax is not included in the price
T. Me who got mad when finding out that I had to pay tax on my 1080ti from Amazon

Norway is not part of the Fascist Union.

I live in Sweden and travel to Norway a few times a year and I buy most of my electronics there because it really is cheaper there. And thanks to a brand new tax coming this summer it's about to get even more expensive.

This even applies to same-store prices. You can easily check this out, just look at USD/NOK and USD/SEK and compare komplett.no and komplett.se prices in terms of USD. You'll find that almost everything is electronic is cheaper in Norway.

Just about everything else, specially food and meat in particular, is a whole lot cheaper in the EU.

Norway still has PST going around covertly torturing people who write articles that are critical of NATO so it's not worth living there if you're able to think critically but it's a better choice if you need to by something like a laptop.

That's only the case with online purchases. If you go into the physical store you will see the price of only the item. The tax gets added upon checkout.
>>
Donl´t forget we have 2 years mandatory warranty, while other countries, mandatory warranty is only 1 year, so we are charged more for the same product.

>>60444855
This, americans list the prices without VAT but then they have to pay VAT anyway so it comes out about the same for most products.
>>
>>60445771
OP was specifically saying Europe. Regardless, I found the same HDD even cheaper in the Swedish CDON.

We have practically the same taxes you have.

>>60445851
But it's nowhere near the level that OP is crying about.

>>60445852
Again, OP said Europe, but it does not matter. VAT is just as bad here as in Europe.

This is simply not true. And it was never true. Only food in Sweden is much cheaper.

The same hard drives in that Norwegian store costs about the same here, with only 100kr in difference.

The prices for electronics here in Germany come pretty close to the ones in the USA if you deduct the 19% sales tax.

There also don't seem to be any import duties on electronics inside the EU since 2016. I'm not sure if it includes computer hardware too but if not it's probably still low. We are not South America after all.

>Under a new trade agreement—expected to enter into force 1 July 2016—consumer and professional electronic products currently subject to customs duties upon import into the European Union and other jurisdictions will no longer be subject to import duties.

Top lel, enjoy your 10000+ bill for ambulance and being forever in college debt.

But one a serious note things in general are more expensive in EU vs U.S. because of VAT being around 20% while U.S. sales tax according to >>60445025 doesn't exceed 10%. However, U.S. retailers love not to state a tax or show something like "0% tax outsides of the states where we physically operate it" which doesn't clear you from from filling your tax form and paying tax on purchase yourself separately. EU also forces some customer protections down the seller's throat like 14 days guaranteed return regardless of the reason for return or who you bought it from. Altho it depends on a product, pair of jbl 305 that goes around 280 in U.S. costs 300€ in Europe, so not a big difference.
>>
>>60446082
No we just don't pay tax on out if state purchases most of the time

European neo-socialism is completely unsustainable, just take a look at some hard economic data on birth and replacement rates vs GDP growth, etc. That's not to say that what's going on in the US is much better but if "Europe is the only modern society in the world" and it's bound to go up in flames within the next 25-50 years, then what does that say about our ideas of modernity?

>>
How are external hard drives less reliable than internal?
>>
>>60444227
Doesn't a lot of tax get on top of that? Also I believe Europe has better basic warranty standards and such.
>>
>>60446637
> European neo-socialism is completely unsustainable, just take a look at some hard economic data on birth and replacement rates vs GDP growth, etc.
Seems like no big problem overall. Eastern Europe needs to become less shit and some need to get their act together in terms of government spending but overall it's really rather well under control.

> That's not to say that what's going on in the US is much better
Isn't it worse? Prison population, crime, political representation (muh two parties are basically one party - system at the national level), legal security, income inequality, pollution/emissions per capita, quality and cost of education, (absence of) comprehensive public transportation networks, soon health care coverage, and so on and so forth.
>>

Barracuda Pro.

5 years warranty is what I'm after, because drives with good warranty, have good build quality.

The difference is that burgers don't need to import cars necessarily (just MakeDetroitGreatAgain(tm) and make your own), while everybody except Thailand and chinks pretty much needs to import HDDs.

The same reason you cucks are okay with the EU being run by technocrats who have no understanding of politics and deciding what you can and can't have in your own country.

>>60445478
that only applies to online purchase, and even then some states require sales tax on those.

US price is including tax (there is zero tax) in most states, but even in the very few that it isn't, tax is like 6-7%.
