I was thinking about paypal, or ask some friends to borrow credit card, or as a annual membership for Bday or something.

Also, before I knew of FSF I helped out quite a few people with "ancient" laptops/desktops that really only needed browsing set up a lu/xubuntu box.
One was very happy with gimp.
Also just generally pointing out that unless you really need abobe/m$ office (usually for layout stuff) you don't need windows.
I help even people with windows problems, but hey.
