When I looked it up in resource manager, the majority of disk writing came from something called the "NTFS master file". And it was in the system 32 folder, so it wasn't a misleading malware file. At least I don't think.

Why not use a GPU passthrough and run games through a Windows virtual machine on Linux? You can even setup stricter access control over Windows since it will only ever have to communicate with steam, origin, gamespy type shit, etc.
