For the money, "old" Macs are a better value than ThinkPads
>inb4 macfag
Just install Windows 7 or Debian then

before they can reach an old age they will have shattered screens, bent parts, fucked up cables and what not
Good luck picking up a 2012 Macbook Pro with 8gb of ram and an SSD for $100.
~Typed on my T430s with 8gb of ram and an SSD that I got for $100 off of eBay.

>not getting a backdoor-less 2008 Pro with express card bay, optical drive and removable battery for $200
I'm sure you need le ebin iseries for games and "work" though

Same guy, I've got a 2012 Macbook pro 13 and 15 and while the 15 is faster than my thinkpad it also gets half the battery and runs incredibly loud, and the 13 is slower.

I've got a T60 with libreboot that I got for $20, and while it could use more RAM it works fine for anything I'd prefer to have no backdoors on. I could probably upgrade the CPU but honestly it works fine, and still cheaper than that.

what should i do with my early 2008 MacBook with dead battery?
>>60400577
Plus the T60 has a 4:3 screen, and you can swap the optical drive out for a battery if you need it (I have 3 or 4 that I stole out of some thinkpad z61m's I got). I used Macs for a few years. I'm so much happier on my Thinkpads.

Replace battery. Either install Coreboot, use it for iOS development, or sell it. If you want another laptop, bid on the newest X, T, or W series Thinkpad you can find on eBay. Make sure that it comes with a battery if it's an xx30 series because batteries aren't cheap for them.

I tried a few distros on my macbook air and none felt right with the trackpad. OSX is the best OS on a macbook.
>>60400665
good stuff, thanks anon
>>60400690
No problem, I flip that kind of thing all the time. You can probably get $150-$200 on Craigslist, maaybe that on eBay. Depends on the condition. Protip, mark it as refurbirshed, things sell so much faster that way.
>>60400665
actually one follow up question, how much could i sell it for? it's in good shape except for the battery.
>>60400710
you read my mind, thanks again
>>60400689
Especially bad on a Retina. Fan always at max speed and battery was even worse.
>>60400501
back when I was a macfag I had a core2duo MBP and it had no fan control under Windows or Linux. I had to dual boot it with OSX, boot into OSX first so the fan would kick on and then reboot into the other OS. Otherwise it would overhead and BSOD. glad I dropped that retarded shit

Hell yeah man. Toughbooks are pretty great too, they can be more expensive though. Depends on how much you want to fall for the meme. Can't comment on toughbooks but I do have a Dell Latitude E6400 XFR that's pretty cool.
