Does mkfs.ext4 format your drive? I think I fucked up while installing Arch Linux and I did that command on my main hard drive, instead of another one.

what did you think it was going to do
shrug
Is there any way I can get my files back?
>>60339333
not really
maybe next time you won't copy paste unknown commands into your terminal
>>60339333
you could try photorec
you will have clobbered enough of the previous filesystem to make reversal impossible, but you should be able to recovery many files anyway
or just restore from your

Testdisk

it doesn't fomat a drive, it builds a filesystem on a device
https://linux.die.net/man/8/mkfs
And you're bullshitting OP, you can't build a filesystem on an active device (which your main device should be).

>you can't build a filesystem on an active device
sure you can, it just warns you if it's mounted
it also warns you if there's an existing recognized filesystem in the same place
