Why the fuck does Gnomebuntu 16.04 take up 1.6 GB of RAM while idle?
My Gnomebuntu 14.04 install only used 700MB while idle
SystemD can't be that bloated.

Must be something else, maybe Gnome itself uses more resources with the new version. Only top or htop can tell you that.

Lubuntu stock stakes about 250mb on idle max
Ubuntu with something like windowmaker can run at less than 100mb
When did Ubuntu get so bloated? I remember being able to get an idle 300mb on stock Ubuntu and now they recommend 2gb?

Gnome takes up a lot of RAM for all the fancy features. If that bothers you, there's always MATE.
