alright I live in student apartments and all the rooms come with a router/modem combo. The wall has two Ethernet ports but no coax or dsl cables. I have two Ethernet cables. How do I make this work?
>>60335333
plug one end into the wall outlet and the other end into your PC's ethernet port.
>>60335348
That's what I figured hut then what the actual fuck is the router/modem for??
>>60335367
routing, modulating, and demodulating.
It's not plugged into the wall though, how's it getting any of that data?
>>60335348
Or if you're feeling really daring, plug that modem/router combo into the port using its WAN port and and plug your computer into a LAN port on the router for double-NAT fun!
>>60335333
congrats on being the biggest retard I've seen on 4chan this week.
The ports are labeled Ethernet (4 of them) and LAN/WAN. What's double nat?
>>60335333
post pictures (especially, include all the possible connections in all the equipment), your description lacks the details required to answer
>>60335394
>modem/router combo into the port using its WAN port
But that's what you're supposed to do.
>>60335414
4 Ethernet ports LAN wan port dsl port coax voip and a usb
>>60335410
The 4 ports are LAN, where you should plug in your devices, and they'll sit behind NAT/firewall. The WAN port is for network, plug that into the wall.

Alright cool. So the wifi is on, but my computer shows a wired connection, with another connection to the wan,!but the icon itself where it shows what type of connection you have shows wired
>>60335440
Also why not just connect the laptop right to the wall? What's the purpose of the router and modem?
>>60335540
>what is the purpose of having a WiFi connection
Plug Ethernet cable into rj-45 jack on device
>>60335333
use ethernet cable to hang yourself?
Plug an ethernet cable from one port on the wall to the other port on the wall.
Laugh as everyone freaks out.
>>60335333
>How do I make this work?
Make what work? Are you trolling or retarded?
>>60335490
>>60335540
So that you can connect more than one wired device. And so that you also get wifi at the same time as your wired connection.
You can turn wifi off on your laptop if you want. Or don't, it doesn't matter. Your OS will prefer a wired connection vs wifi if it has the choice.
Plug one Ethernet cable from the router's WAN to your conscience, use the second cable to plug one of router's lan ports into the wall.
>>60335333
wall > modem > access point
what the fuck
how is this retarded thread getting actual replies
you should be ashamed of yourself
