It's not about updates, it's about HOW are they performed.
I can update my rolling-release Linux every day, with one command. It does not slow down computer, takes 5 minutes and does not require restart. All programs in the system are updated independently.
I can chain commands and turn off computer right after it updates. I can schedule updates to be performed at stated time.
This is how it should be.

The only reason that this is possible on rolling-release systems is because the "base system" is actually a collection of smaller separate programs working together, so each component can be upgraded individually.
