So now that Linux will be in the Windows Store, there is now absolutely no reason not to use Windows 10.

You have your freedom! OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, Fedora, you name it! Linux users, you are officially OUT OF EXCUSES!!!!!

Welcome to the Year of the Linux Desktop, brought to you by Microsoft.

>>

Until... wait for it...

Those distros become exclusive to Microsoft hosted through the store only. :^)

I'm excited for Microsoft to acquire such mature operating systems!
>>
>>60330834
Then I'll just use one not owned by Microsoft.
>>
>>60330883
Oh you poor SOUL!

Don't you realize that Linux ITSELF is being acquired? The kernel. It will have future updates with heavy influence by Microsoft to integrate within the subsystem of Windows. Driver integration, hardware sharing, filesystem meshing.

Do you actually not get it? Linux of course will work, but all packages will be transitioning to be compatible exclusively within the subsystem.

Quite the opossite. Now that there is no reason that winfags won't develop for and use linux and its easier for them to port their code and test it i don't see me ever installing anything else again.

Face it, why the fuck develop for the thing that cost you 200+ dollar in licensing/machine and 2000-20000+ dollar in sever licensing when you can just buy any laptop and do your shit for linux?

With gtk4+,qt5, stable vulkan drivers and awesome systemd and pulseaudio support there is no reason to develop next years enterprise titles and apps for windows when you can just do it for linux and it runs on windows that way anyway.
>>
yes, give away most of the good things about linux by being on windows, gain all the bad stuff from windows です
>>
>>60330639
but it's still Windows that comes with all the shit that made GNU/Linux users switch over to GNU/Linux in the first place. Until Microsoft fixes all the problems that Windows has, adding some Linux programs on top of it isn't going to cut it.
>>
>>60331101
It's more of a "the devs don't need 2 computers or a VM to dev linux code while still being able to use Office365/2016 and have their computer locked down by a AD".
>>
Cool! Now I never have to leave Windows 10™! Installing Linux requires too many steps anyway.

They compiled their own version of the kernel, so added the vendor name to the kernel name fields. This is pretty common, have a look at rhel for another example. What's the issue?

Sorry, dude, but I haven't toughed out the last ten years on Linux, only to go to Wangdows and lose all of the goodness Linux has accomplished. Windows can't even push an update without breaking shit anymore. Linux is great now and Windows has nothing to offer except for ads and fail.
>>
>>60330639
Fuck off pajeet.

>>60333147
Active Directory, Exchange, Microsoft Forefront/Sophos, and workstation-level-antivirus were among
the firs things i asked every company for on one of my second round of jobhunts. If they had any of it i walked,
simple as that. I wanted to control my own machine and their buisness to end on a https/ssh connection,
althought thats not very common anymore.

That left me with small Web, MacOS, Mobile-App and some remote jobs at first, but it got better.
Ironacally the company i work for now does expands periodically by buying windows solutions and
hiring their experts to help us integrate their cusomer base. We take their shitty MFC/C++/VB6/C#.NET desktop apps
and integrate it into our x-platform and mobile solutions. Its even funnier because the devs & buisness guys
we keep "freeing" that way all tell us how much better it is at my current company.
Even the buisness guys that you would think are BOUND to office/360 and outlook are much
happier on google and thunderbird/libre office. They dont even dislike desktops/laptops anymore and returned from their tablets this year.
Most software devs that got hired this way, survived the training/filtering and switch to linux, never felt happier and more in control after that.
They also feel like better devs after someone teaches them their OS. However i explain this by them never getting thought windows properly
or rather windows not making sense for devs that didn't live throught the last 30 years because its full of legacy debt.
The people that stay with us are very happy BECAUSE they are not working with MS related legacy tech anymore, so we may be the exception.
I like my shop though and will never go back to a MS based company if i can avoid it.
>>
>>60334099
Honestly every place recently are moving to office 2016 and lync/skype for business and they like it. And I have to say it just works for what it is intended for. Communication between companies revolves around ms office.

I've got windows 2012 with visual studio for windows development. I use qt creator and emacs for linux and unix development which is where I spend most time developing. I still need my windows computer with office for scheduling meetings, planning and communication. Thunderbid and libre office just don't come close.

MS knows their enterprise customers well and gves them what they need.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
>>
>>60335439
actually it's just GNU

there is no linux involved; the wsl translates syscalls that would go to linux to nt
>>
>>60330639
why not just dual boot and have full use of your hardware? plus you can choose your own distro instead of being limited to which ever ones microshaft wants to spoon feed you.

WSL boils down to extra convenience for people who use Windows (whether they be regular users or developers for either OS)

It's great if you want Linux but with ads and spyware and a whole other operating system as bloat.

Anyone who actually likes this is a literal cuckold who will no doubt make excuses to let Microsoft fuck their OS.

This might actually be a good thing for Linux though, Seeing as Windows is already at 90% market share and Linux is less than 2%, Linux has no where to go but up and Windows has no where to go but down. By allowing Windows users to easily test-drive Linux they're going to drive people to the better OS. It's highly unlikely they're going to steal back people who have already abandoned microsoft cuckware.
