I'm going to sell my 2500K/R9 290 machine for hopefully a nice amount of money and buy a cheap office PC, put a SSD and new GPU in it. I basically browse 4chin and maybe play a few games which I can enjoy just as much on like a RX 460.
Am I doing this right?
Pic rel. is the PC I'm selling.

How much do you really expect to get for that? i5-2500K is basically obsolete already and no-one wants R9 290 spaceheater.

People on eBay or even Craigslist would be willing to pay top dollar for a 2500K since they fell for the "one of the best processors of all time XDDDDD" meme.

>obsolete
That is fucking bullshit.
>>60292889
oddly enough people in my area will pay close to 500 for this garbage

He's not wrong though. Even if it's clocked at 5 GHz, it's still going to be a major bottleneck.

He is wrong though. A 2500K is more then enough for regular usage and gaming.
I have a 3470+970 and I can run pretty much everything on ultra/high settings.

Forgot to mention that Intel has barely made any improvements.

buy a refurb HP workstation or something, slap a GPU on that and go to town widdit

290 alone is not good enough, need to strap a water cooled FX9370 in there.
Now we are talking space heater that doubles as a sauna worthy of chernobyl status.

I sold my 2500k + 980 last year for 1100. I modded the case though(power supply shroud, made from real metal!(tm)), and it had 2 ssds and 3.5 tb of storage. Oh and it was with a 144hz monitor and a k70 keyboard and gaymin mouse. The computer probably only sold for 700.

Not sure it's wise anon
Going from 2500k to 4690k would be a sidegrade
And any Skylake/kabylake will cost you moar than you will sell for!
Does the 2500k and 290 is that bad ?
For light gaming it's more then enough
Especially at 1080p
What are you main reason for upgrading?
