/g/, a column of my laptop's screen keeps converting white into black.
All other colors remain the same, and it changes back to normal when I press the plastic underneath the broken column, so it's clearly a mechanical issue with the screen.
Is it possible or worthwhile to have it fixed, or should I just consider my laptop fucked?

Y'all is fucked.
Can you replace the laptop screen or did you not get a Thinkpad

This is the second thinkpad I've gotten that has crapped out on me within months, and I'm just about done following /g/'s thinkpad related advice. Beginning to think it's a slow-burn form of gentoo trolling.

Check the GPU. Check the screen ribbon cable. I've had a weird screen issue that turned out to be the ribbon cable.
If it's not the screen ribbon cable, it's likely the column driver chips on the actual LCD panel. These are pretty much impossible to fix when they come unglued but sometimes applying pressure on it will work for a while. Lots of 2008ish Samsung TVs died from this.
