I am the resident IT guy at my company...only because I know how to do more than check email and facebook. There is one computer in the production area and it is an Acer computer and it's used for doing up orders, invoices and stuff. It's a 1.2ghz AMD Dual Core, non-removeable CPU, and the ram is maxed out at 4gb. It runs windows 10 and it's slow as balls. The CPU runs max at idle. The owner of the company won't upgrade the machine, but has allowed me to try and make it faster. So I need some ideas.
I don't think a GPU could be used to off load the CPU's load. I have done everything I can think of software wise to make it more responsive.
The main software it needs to run is quickbooks.
Throw some linux/unix based shit on that beast

I would if I could.
So, basically you can't do anything? And you have a special low-power workstation for doing basic shit?
Tell them it's fucked and they need to buy machines with 4x the performance on eBay for $100.
Disable automatic startup of all programs. This may be the issue if there are many things installed that start when you boot the pc.

I've already done that, and I've set performance settings to as fast as I can get it.

Install xp 64bit on it. Seems to me the system has been upgraded and upgraded and upgraded.

>business owner won't take care of the machine that handles income
