My little cousin (10) needs a laptop for school. Got a budget of around $300, so was looking at getting some shitty amd apu laptop for him.

Was looking at what software I should put on it. He needs it for school, and he isn't too tech savvy so I'll chuck on windows 7 and some microsoft office version; whatever I can get.

Other than that, what else should I put on there? I was thinking replace internet explorer with firefox/chrome with adblock, some remote assistance software because no doubt he will fuck it up somehow, and I will teach him how to use veracrypt and incognito tabs.

I remember at that age I did some really, really dumb shit and was pretty embarrassed by it and I don't want him to go through the same shit.

Put a shortcut to pornhub on his desktop and rename it "School_app"

get him bittorrent and teach him to recognize good torrents from bad. I remember downloading some stupid shit on limewire when I was younger. inevitably he's gonna start pirating stuff so best start him on the right path.
what kind of classes does he take? that might help narrow down other types of software

Yeah the torrent setup will be pretty good. His internet is literally aids tier tho so I'll just get him to ask me for movies and shit.

Also not too sure what classes he does, normal school stuff? I don't think he will need any specific software other than ms office
>>
Considered a chromebook for him? They have longer battery life and are really easy to use. A lot less bloat than Windows. Plus you can run a bunch of android apps on them. For $300 you can probably get a lot more out of a chromebook than a windows laptop.

Only downside I've had is you can only cloud connect to printers since the developers didn't want to deal with drivers. My printer is ancient and only uses cables, so I have to switch to my regular computer for that. Of course that's easy because with a cb you use google drive for everything.

Yeah I was considering chromebook, but I was a bit iffy with it. They use windows at school, and I don't want to confuse the shit out of him yet.

If he was a bit older, or maybe for his next laptop I'll have a chat with him but at the moment he is a bit uninformed
>>
>>60276385
Teach him to install Gentoo
>>
>>60276385
maybe I'm an old fogey but a 10 year old child does not need their own laptop. They can use the school computers or a guest account on the family computer.
>>
>>60276461
I don't think he'll need much Else either, unless he needs like kidspiration or something.
good luck senpai

A hosts file.

Even if he fucks up the browser, or change it, most ads and malware domains will be blocked.
>>
Thinkpad
>>
>>60276385
Well shit he sounds like a good person for Windows 10 S.

A chromebook isnt bad. A lot of schools are handing them out to kids now days. But really, never heard of a 10 year old needing a laptop for school.

With that picture as icon.

Where did our society go wrong?
>>
>>60276385
Get him refub thinkpad t420. It will get him all the pussy (thanks to 420) and allow him to fight off bullies thanks to its superior weight.

>>60276385
>10
I just got my laptop a year ago.
Im 25.
>>
>>60276820
if they are regularly assigned assignments that need to be completed online than it is not a good idea to only have intermident access to a computer when you need one on a regular basis
>>
>>60276510
10 rubles have been deposited
>>
Just install MeeGo for him, I doubt that he'll manage to fuck it up.
>>

>my little cousin (10) needs laptop for school
