The only good thing about driving a tesla is that you have the option to find these special EV parking spots when you're in a city and everything is taken already.

On top of that it's just stupid to buy new cars in general and it would perhaps be even a worse deal if you get a used Electric car due to the battery's reliability decreasing every day and the replacement costs of said battery would probably be stupidly high as well.

Because they're impractical the way they are currently. If they one day decide to produce a station wagon I might consider one. Also, a Tesla won't give you more than 350km of range on one charge. They have to get the range up or alternatively put chargers on every gas station.

I seriously doubt it.

In fact I think they are selling them at break even at best, possibly with a loss.

Batteries are hugely expensive.
And they need special components that aren't mass produced yet.

Electric cars are only viable thanks to massive government subsidies.

I disagree.

Tesla's are fine for the average American commute.

And Americans can easily buy a second car for holidays and longer trips.
Unlike us Europeans they don't have to pay €2000/year in road taxes to own an old SUV or pickup truck, and they have plenty space to park them.

It depends on the fuel and weight.

Worst case scenario (5000kg diesel) costs €6000 per year here, but around €1000-€1500 is more realistic.

Tell me about it.

Especially since all experts agree it's much better to charge per km rather than a flat monthly fee.
But the right-wing parties refuse to even discuss it, so nobody can own nice cars here. SAD.

I drive a mid-90's toyota that I can fix anything on from the pull-a-part for $5

I actually don't really have to do shit to it besides occasional fluids, it's a non-interference engine so I can run it until it breaks and then just replace everything at once

Also, no comprehensive insurance for the past 8 years. The $30 I've saved a month is about $3k, which is way more than this thing is worth

you're right, in most urban cases (where EVs dominate) it is usually faster to travel since you can park right outside wherever you're going, and not find and pay for parking

also you can charge it inside your house without having to install a charging station or run cords from your dryer outlet

>>60217370

Yeah depends on where you live mostly in terms of public transport availability/insurance cost. Rural MN here and a car is a necessity.

But if you can't rebuild your own transmission you will almost definitely be better off buying a new car if it goes out.

How freaking cold it is to sit in that car most of the year. There really is a big difference between driving something electric that can't heat the car cabin up to a comfortable temperature and a gasoline car that that in 3 minutes.

>>60214578
Norway has some massive tax credits on electric cars right now and that will end next year. Seriously, if you can buy a Tesla in Norway then you should probably do that and put it in a garage and sell it early next year. I'm not entirely sure what the numbers are but some article about that I read the other day gave me the impression that the price difference will be huge.
>>
>>60218265
>can't heat the car cabin up to a comfortable temperature and a gasoline car that that in 3 minutes.

I would like to see a direct comparison.

Electric heaters work near instantly.
Gasoline cars might be able to generate more heat eventually, but they take several minutes to get the engine up to temperature.

So I wouldn't be surprised if electric cars are actually more comfortable in cold climate.
>>
>>60218380
Also, I could be mistaken but I think you can pre-heat Tesla's remotely with your phone.

They are not.

>>60218395
>you can pre-heat Tesla's remotely
No, you can't.

Electric cars are cold when it's -20C outside. They won't heat up to a comfortable temperature. They just don't. Tesla's don't, the WW Golf electric doesn't, none of them do. Don't care about some "pre-heat" option because they don't actually heat up regardless of how long you "pre-heat" them. They are probably fine places where it never goes below say -5C.
