Is there any reason for a smartphone to have more than a 720p display?
I feel like we have passed the point of diminishing returns and its now just a bunch of spec wankery.
Up to 5'' - yes. After that phablet faggots can put their 8k displays for e-peen

I remember spec noobs with the "more is better in everything" mentality react to the Nintendo Switch's 1280x720 display "B-b-but even muh phone has a 4k display!"
Most attempts to rationalise with them with arguments like:
- 720p is good enough for a portable screen
- It saves battery
get shut down with:
"Nintendrone! You're just saying it's okay when Nintendo does it!"

I'm using a 5" 1080x1920 and yes, 720p is enough. Sometimes is hard to read on that shit.

The 720p display on the iPhone 7 looks grainy.
The 1080p display on the 7 Plus looks fine.

>720p absolute minimum and budget tier
>1080p is the sweetspot
>1440p is the luxury alternative
>4K is a meme

Depends on screen size. 720p should be fine for sub 5' devices while 1080p is deal for screen close to 6'. Anywhere in between is a tossup between price vs battery size vs GPU power.
The 1080p 5.7' screen on my phone looks very sharp and accurate. Couldn't ask for more TBQH.
DPI is more important than pixel count

This already happened several years ago.
Woah make the ground move that's an ass-quake
Built a house up on that ass that's an ass-state
Roll my weed on it that's an ass-tray
