debating on getting a i7-5820k vs i7-6900k
but having difficulty deciding based off benchmarks seems the 5820 has higher scores everywhere but I dont see how when its a generation older. Was that processor that good? Why does the older one cost almost twice as much as the newer one? Please help me understand that mess :P

Please help me decide, thanks for any replies.
>>
Those are both obsolete.
>>
>>60195085
Only a complete fucking retard would buy either. Housefires, dead platform and made obsolete by Poozen. Either buy into that or wait for X299.
>>
>>60195085
>Intel
>>
Why would you want either of those when a Ryzen 7 can give you the same performance for at least half the price?
>>
>>60195122
>>60195153
>>60195170
Well I only have these 2 choices since Im getting a deal on them but oddly the 5820 is more, I know there are better but I am wondering out of those 2 which is better since I cna get a good price.
>>
>>60195196
Define "good price". It would need to be a damn good deal to be worth it at this point.
>>
>>60195196
>Im getting a deal on them
What kind of deal? Many sellers are probably eager to get rid of them.
>>
>>60195217
half theprice in the pics about 500 for the 6900k and 575 for the 5820.

any help in deciding is appreciated. Thanks for the other suggestions.
>>
>>60195268
Still not worth it. Just go for the Ryzen 1700 where the max you'll pay is $329 retail price if you're a yankfag.

Stock cooler is decent as well, currently running mine at 3.9ghz, although I'll probably upgrade it at some point in the future.
>>
>>60195268
Are you just getting the CPUs for half price? Or are you getting boards for cheap too?
>>
>>60195337
This. If you're scared of overclocking for some reason get a 1700X or 1800X instead.
>>
>>60195254
This

They only want to get rid of their obsolete trash CPUs
>>
>>60195390
>>60195350
I know that but he is giving me a free mobo for them so thats a big savings for me and I am not rich so just wondering which to pick from him.
>>
>>60195405
A Ryzen 1700 and a solid B350 motherboard is still cheaper than either of those options.
>>
6900k has 2 more cores but clocks lower
5820k clocks high but only has 6 cores instead of 8.

If you're concerned about gaming performance, the 5820k is better because clock speed will be more important than MOAR cores.
>>
>>60195085
Please tell me this is bait.
>>
>>60195446
hmmm well im gonna use the computer for gaming so 6 cores are better than 8? wouldnt the newer 6900 with more cores and it being a gen newer shouldnt it be better? is it really that bad?
>>
>>60195337
what is your vcore at / temps and what are your ram speeds m8
>>
>>60195518
If it's for games you should just get a 1600X or a 7700K instead, neither of those CPUs you're looking at give you good game performance for the price.
>>
>>60195518
The newer gen is 14nm whereas the 5820k is 22nm, the 22nm process is much more refined, because its been around longer, the 14nm process was brand new and not so well done.

The 5820k actually clocks higher than the 6800k (the new gen 6 core). But because it is a generation newer it DOES have a ~5% IPC improvement, but since it on average clocks 200mhz lower (when OC'd), it ends up being basically identical perofrmance.

Tldr; the new gen is just newer with a few more features, but if you dont need anything specific to the newer gen, the old is actually better.
>>
>>60195547
>for the price.
Nigger he already told you he's getting a deal, stop memeing

The 5820k can clock up to 4.4Ghz+ which comes within 10% of a 7700k but with 2 more cores.
>>
>>60195559
>Tldr; the new gen is just newer with a few more features, but if you dont need anything specific to the newer gen, the old is actually better.

what if I ask him for 10 cores instead of 8? He mendioned I could get a 6950x for 650?
>>
>>60195405

>get ryzen 5 1600 (£200)
>get b350 mobo (£70-90)
>be pro
>>
>>60195196
5820 draw 200w OCed, and it's worthless without OC
>>
>>60195586
again, unless you have a need for those cores, it will be worse for gaming.

90% of games right now use 1-4 cores.

some games can use up to 6-12+, but will still run perfectly fine on a 4 core machine.

getting a 10 core that maxes out at around 3.8Ghz is NOT going to give good gaming performance compared to a 6 core clocked at 4.5GHz.

Unless you're doing actual number crunching, encoding files, etc with your CPU, you just wont need 10 cores.
>>
>>60195611
Bullshit, you're probably the same retard throwing that same bullshit last week, the 5820k doesn't even pull it's 140w TDP at stock, it pulls barely 100w.

OC'ing mine and I can get TOTAL system power draw up around 275w, but actual CPU power draw alone is still less than 180w.
>>
>>60195615

The 5820 is 6 cores at 3.8 from what he sent me and the 6950 10 core is also 3.8 so does that change which I should get with that info?
>>
>>60195532
1.38 volts stable. Quite high, Could/should probably drop it lower to be fair.

RAM is only running at 2666mhz, can't get two 8gb ram sticks running at 2933mhz on the current bios. One works fine at 2933mhz for some reason though.
>>
OP here:
just FYI: downgrading from a titan-z to a 980-ti since my friend said it would save money which should be true?
>>
>>60195669
>The 5820 is 6 cores at 3.8 from what he sent me and the 6950 10 core is also 3.8 so does that change which I should get with that info?
no because only a fucking moron would run a 5820k at anything under 4GHz.
>>
>>60195711
980-ti is a generation old, why even bother?

The GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti are both out.
>>
>>60195712
thats how the processor comes and I have no intention of OCing it so I guess since their both at 3.8 which would you say is better?
6950x or 5820k?
>>
>>60195722
it says online that the 980 ti is better than the 1080 though?

I also have an option for titan x
>>
>>60195732
well they're not both at 3.8Ghz

The 5820k is at 3.3GHz
The 6950x is at 3.0GHz

If they're at 3.8GHz then you're already OCing, in which case you'd be a fucking moron to run a 5820k at anything under 4Ghz, like I said.
>>
>>60195739
Titan X is even older, why the fuck are you looking at GPUs that old?

CPUs are fine to be a few gens behind, but you want the most recent GPU you can afford.

GTX 1070/1080/1080Ti, if you're insane MAYBE the brand new Titan XP
>>
>>60195765
>Titan X is even older, why the fuck are you looking at GPUs that old?
I was looking based off price like a retard thanks for pointing that out.

so a 1080ti is better than a 980ti it seems from youtube right>?
>>
>>60195745
>If they're at 3.8GHz then you're already OCing, in which case you'd be a fucking moron to run a 5820k at anything under 4Ghz, like I said.
He says their at 3.8 maybe their already modified? but if their both 3.8 which would be a better pick if I dont intent to modify them?
>>
>>60195810

>their
>>
>>60195810
if they're BOTH at 3.8GHz then the 6950x

HOWEVER the 5820k is literally just 4 button clicks away from being at 4.4GHz+

So i'm not sure why you'd limit yourself that way.
>>60195795
Yes, GTX 1080Ti is brand new and is the single best current GPU that isn't 100% retarded priced (though it's price is still pretty retarded)
>>
>>60195834
>Yes, GTX 1080Ti is brand new and is the single best current GPU that isn't 100% retarded priced (though it's price is still pretty retarded)
ok I will look into this thanks based anon and I will go with the 5820k and run those 4 clicks to get it to 4.0 right?
>>

Here is my 5820k, I have it at 4.3GHz and 1.274v

Your BIOS has a GUI, just go into the OC settings, click the multiplier up from 38 up to 42 or 43, then set your voltage to auto, or manually set it somewhere between 1.2v and 1.3v (do not go over 1.3v without knowing what you're doing)

90% of all 5820k's can be OC'd with the above settings, so you shouldnt have any problems.

thanks anon will save that tip!

No. The 5820K is on par with Ryzen 5 and has better single-core performance. I wouldn't buy one new but until Zen a used 5820K has been the best deal on the whole market in terms of performance/money.
>>60195908
Update your speccy... Running mine on 4.3 too, but on 1.288 V currently... It crashed a few days ago, it seems it set my RAM speed too high but I wanted to be sure. I might test 4.5 and 4.4 again, but I'll need around 1.35V for this.
>>
>>60196000
>>60196042
Don't set it to auto, try 1.25 V at first and go higher in 0.1 V steps. Mine does boot with much lower voltage but Prime95 will crash when I don't apply at least 1.275V.
>>
>>60196060
1.275? ok Im not sure and dont want to damage the computer so I will test it.

I lack the MT score but makes up for it in slightly faster ST.
Can't complain, the CPU cost me forty bucks.
>>
>>60196089
Google it, everything under 1.3 V is fine. Intel specifies voltage up to 1.4V. BUT make sure to use a proper cooler, I recommend Corsair AIOs, Intel recommends their AIO solution. They don't sell it with a boxed cooler for a reason, if you want to air cool it buy the fattest cooler you can get.
>>60196109
Not bad, I just got a i5-2550 for 40 €. Cannot OC but it is 3.5 GHz as I remember.

It's a $40 quad core with good IPC, even if it can't OC that's still a cheap ass very usable CPU.
Though since this was so cheap (Z97 board and 24GB ram for free) I actually am locked down now, and won't have to bother with upgrading until Ryzen 11 and Intel 9700K.

I had to buy case, PSU, SSD, and D15 and still hadn't spent a single $ on it, it wasn't until I bought a GTX1070 that I finally had to actually pay for the PC, and I calculated that with all the things I bought the complete PC cost me in total $40 for the CPU and $182.6 for the GTX1070

SSDs was from PC I sold since I always keep my drives when selling a PC.
>>
>>60196240
Its a HTPC with gaming capabilities, more than I need. I'm currently running a Phenom II but it is horribly slow under load and draws more than 100 W. The board is also shitty, it doesn't even have SATA 2.

i5s are perfect for most taks, I have a 5820K too but its useless for anything except converting and winrar. its nice to have two more cores in games but they aren't necessary.
