Tim Sweeney tried to warn you about Microsoft killing Steam, but you wouldn't listen

Please bring the UE4 Editor binaries to Linux.
>>
>>60182379

Do you really think Microsoft would not allow you to turn off auto updates?

Do you really think Microsoft would put advertisements all over the UI?

Do you really think Microsoft would send Telemetry without any way to turn it off?
>>
>>60182379
That's what Windows 10 S/Cloud is meant to do

You can't run Win32 programs on that

It fucks Steam up and you can only run programs from the crappy Windows Store
>>
Steam is cancer now anyway.
>>
>>60182453
POO
>>
>>60182311
Steam isn't a Windows Store app.
>>
>>60182438
>you can only run programs from the crappy Windows Store
Yes, and Steam would never be allowed on the platform unless it was purely as a messaging client because it competes directly with the Windows store.

Not sure why anyone would buy one of these overpriced Chromebooks.
>>
>>60182466
It's the truth. Fuck those kikes. At this point pirating is the only decent way to get games.
>>
>>60182379
Yes. The functionality was recently added. It's just off by default... for now.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/02/28/microsoft_restricts_windows_software/

It being on by default in a future build will be the next way they'll "protect" people from "the bad guys". And normies will have no idea how to disable it.
>>
>>60182434
>Do you really think Microsoft would not allow you to turn off auto updates?
Microsoft allows you to turn them off, though.
>Do you really think Microsoft would put advertisements all over the UI?
I don't think they are everywhere, but GNU + Ubuntu Linux did this as well.

>>
>>60182481
Thats the point, faggot

Steam is locked out of Windows 10 S, thats the end game for Microsoft

Future Windows will simply not run Win32 apps and you can only download apps from the Windows Store

Why is everyone so blind when Tim Sweeney can see what is gonna happen in the future?

ZERO CHOICE
>>
>>60182311
These applications aren't available in the Windows store in the first place. How is that Microsoft's fault?
>>
>>60182493
>Microsoft allows you to turn them off, though.
No they don't, you can't even disable them in Windows 10 Pro and enabling a metered connection only delays certain updates
>>

It's not the UI is starting to strain under all the legacy shit.

7 can be a little weird to come back to and navigate after all these years. It feels like it has five or six layers that interconnect in odd ways that you had to grow into to understand with menus that make you question whether they should be there at all or combined.
8 is a clusterfuck that tried to aim for unity.
10 is redundant because muh tablet mode. Also the menus control slightly different things with more or less configuration in either one as compared to the other.

Denuvo has servers that it phones home to but -somehow- it's not drm. Drm has a negative connotation so they started spouting this bullshit.
>>
How is this even a question?
It's a matter of WHEN, not IF.

They just recently started harshly enforcing the signed drivers thing, which is fucking absurd. Test mode doesn't disable it anymore, switching it off via command line now only lasts one boot.

Completely disruptive.
>>
>>60182653
>Why would Microsoft even try doing that?
>If they did, theit market share would collapse overnight as users would realize just how many of their applications aren't available on the Windows store?
Because selling operating systems just isn't profitable anymore. Windows 95 was selling for $209 back in the 1990s. Thats about $330 USD adjusting for inflation. The server versions were extremely expensive and most of that revenue has gone away as well.

MS know they can't just kill win32 straight away, they will degrade performance and break compatibility with updates until win32. They will probably allow very simple applications to run sandboxed with limited access to the system to keep businesses happy.

For games and anything needing a gpu or decent performance they are going to kill win32. They have bet their entire windows division on being able to transition to an app store model where they get a % of all windows software sales. They will either succeed or it will kill windows as a consumer OS. Consumer PC sales don't really bring in that much money for them so they aren't risking as much as people think. If the app store backfires they will just focus on business and push the windows license prices up to $1000 or something while trying to sell cloud alternatives to business.

In 5 - 10 years there's very little chance you will be able to own a windows PC like you do now.
>>
DRM Fact Check:

DRM is anything that artificially restricts you from doing something with a piece of software which it would otherwise be capable of doing.
Photoshop for example, won't let you work with high resolution images of currency because it detects it. That is one form of DRM
Denuvo is another different form of DRM.

Valve do provide DRM for developers to use with games they release on Steam.
This isn't mandatory, and a few games will be more than happy to be copied from the Steam directory and run without it.
