No thx the AMJ96 is also chinese and 1/3 the price if you don't get the special snowflake case. Shame they sold out of the cheap version.

>>
>>60170565
Adafruit sells a good one, but out of stock and relatively expensive (+ infamous adafruit shipping fee):
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1535

On AliExpress there's HM-10 or HM-11 for 5$, but it'll be a bumpy ride software-wise.

Those are the only options I'm aware of.
If you end up figuring something out and getting something working, post your results here, because I'm also interested in figuring out Bluetooth.

iso is shit but it's mostly due to qwerty and shitty mappings of some keys, ansi manages to be shit by design

the only reason to use ansi is that you're from an ansi country, have a really shitty iso layout (like many european iso variants) or have a keyboard fetish and want the highest availability of cross compatible keyboards

I like ANSI, but the big backslash key is retarded. Don't tell me you're escaping so many characters in your code to justify its size. Aside from that, I don't think there are any other "programming advantages" over ISO.

is that UK ISO? then you don't even have a reason to use ISO because you're writing english and british/american english aren't different enough to warrant using a different keyboard layout. Yup. Brit here, I definitely prefer ANSI now. I don't code, I just type and use CAD all day, but ANSI is easily my favourite. I'll still switch it up with different bottom rows, split right-shift, even split backspace.. But the large left-shift and long enter key are deal breakers. I also prefer having @ on the top row.
>>
>>60177578
I suppose I can always re-sell it if I don't like it? I'm getting it for $150
>>
>>60177504
Fuck no. Alps are fantastic but are typically less popular as they're no longer produced (save for Matias clones), so most of the time you'll be harvesting from vintage boards, which limits your keycap options.

Try out some proper, good condition SKCM Alps switches and you'll see. The overpriced SA keysets and RGB lighting will give way to sharp, crisp tactility and clean, subtle keycaps.
>>
>>60177559
>>60177606

the best way of describing topre/hhkb is that it's like cherry red/black or other linear cherry switches but with a slight resistance bump similar to what you'd find in something like cherry brown but it's by no means a tactile bump

contrary to what this guy is suggesting >>60177613 they're fine for people that don't bottom out (or do), unlike rubber dome switches you don't need to bottom out topre for it to activate as the activation point is about half way like on mechanical switches

the biggest issue I had with importing a hhkb was the cost, if you can get it for cheap I say go for it, if nothing else you can stick it on ebay

>>60177658
>Fuck no. Alps are fantastic but are typically less popular as they're no longer produced (save for Matias clones)

seconding this, matias quiet switches are all round superior to cherry brown and I have to assume regular unsilenced alps are equally as nice to type on

ansi key mappings tend to be acceptable but compared to uk iso there really isn't a lot of difference - for this reason I'm going to ignore mainland europe's iso equivalents because they have to butcher the programming keys for foreign characters (not that ansi variants are innocent of this, pic related is the abomination that is the standard dutch keyboard layout)

>ANSI was designed for programming

you end up with a gimped enter key in favour of a large \| key, the iso enter key retains the full amount of keys in that area of the keyboard and as a result if you try to use an ansi layout like us english on an iso keyboard you have *full* key compatibility

esc key is shit, hhkb improves this
delete key is shit, some keyboards have tried to improve this but none really hit the mark
caps lock is a dead key, hhkb improves on this by making it into a control but literally anything else is better - binding caps lock to backspace and backspace to delete kills two birds by removing one key
` key is fucking useless and the fact ansi has to shift it to get ~ is a joke
such a large spacebar is useless, can be shortened by at least a key or two allowing more use out of the bottom row

iso inherits these problems from ansi

as far as uk iso changes go, left shift is gimped since qwerty is heavily biased towards the left hand making more use out of the right shift, most subsequent changes on uk iso are because of the shorter left shift, you get an extra key out of the deal

>But you're jusy a gaymer

not agreeing with ibm's subpar physical layout makes me a gaymer now? if it wasn't obvious you were a reddit reject I'd suggest fucking off to leddit

physical ansi is shit and both ansi and iso has some dodgy mappings as I already acknowledged

I wouldn't trust it for often plugged/replugged devices. Or with heavy cords.

Look up tutorials. Basically, what you need to do is look at the seatings/screw holes/whatever the fuck you call everything that holds the shit together and then draw the same thing in CAD or Illustrator whatever. Then once you know the board will sit properly, you can do whatever you want aesthetics wise. Then you bring that to whoever cuts aluminium and that's it.

Started work at a new place recently, and I'm working on a 2015 Macbook Pro. They provided a decent enough gaming mouse but a crappy old Microsoft wireless keyboard with spongey keys.

Took a look in my local GAME store since they have a keyboard display and have this one called a HyperX Alloy FPS. It felt pretty nice to use out of the selection they had.
Looking it up, they appear to be Cherry MX Blue switches. They might be a little noisy for the work environment I wanna use them in but I doubt it.

Anyone had any experience with this board? I'm thinking of trying it out, also have a voucher handy to knock another £5 off that discounted £70 price.
>>
>>60180605

>>
>>60181024
will work, will be comfortable.

But most of the people here care a lot about how much aesthetics you can make them look, and gaming keyboards don't really look nice with diff keycaps.

Buy a different board, don't spend your money on that keyboardo
>>
How do I customize the keycaps on wasd keyboards anyway?
Do I have to download and edit their layout file, or can I just do it with their built in layout designer?
>>
>>60181330
Luckily, the alternate 1/2/3/4/W/A/S/D keys there are just that, alternates. They have a textured grip but otherwise the keyboard has regular keys on it as well, which I would probably use.

Aesthetically with or without the marked keys it looks nice enough to me, I'm indifferent to the LEDs and am mostly concerned with a comfortable nice working keyboard for the typing I do at work.

This is probably gonna be fine for me, will buy on Thursday when my voucher is valid.
>>
>>60181376

My bad about the shit picture quality, I only have a galaxy s4 to work with.

i have a Razer Chroma and want to buy new keys because some keys (QWER) are fucking up sometimes, if I change the keys for the lower keys (BVNM) they work fine but have a diferent leverage (pic relatered) and if I change for UIOP it still fucks up sometimes.

Any recommendations on keys?

I have this thing.
It's pretty good for its price, clicks well, feels good. The only problem is that the cable is not detachable(although it can go three directions) and it feels like your gardening hose.

I wish this were more popular with expensive products, especially those people don't see like your keyboard(of all things). Does putting a razer logo on a keyboard really help them sell so many more keyboards that they have to do it?
How many times does someone look at their friends keyboard, see the logo, recognise it, and then go buy the same one? It must be pretty rare
logos take the aesthetics of a product down so much
>>
Is mx grey a non click version of green? I love the way greens feel but they are so loud

if you could can you take a picture of the cable ?

Anyone know of a USB extension thay points forward? I've gotten to the point where I change out keyboards multiple times a day and I'm think of some sort of extension with a stand on the end would be ideal for doing this. I see the StarTech 5ft Desktop USB Extension (USBEXTAA5DSK) but it points up, would need it to point forward

>What is /mkg/'s opinion on MX Blues?
top tier for typing but it depends on your preferences
>Is it true they cause arthritis?
doubt it. if you're getting arthritis you're probably doing something wrong regardless of which switch you're using. all mechanical switches are probably much more ergonomic than membrane keyboards at least the membrane keyboards where the rubber has gone bad with time.

The sound you hear is from bottoming out. The actual difference in loudness between switches is negligible. They sound different, but are just as loud.
