>CPU hits 90 degrees while fans kick up to 100% and starts to throttle
I'm returning it to best buy tomorrow, what's a laptop with good cooling?
>>60155491
Thinkpad X1 Carbon
>starts to throttle
you should manually throttle every laptop down to maximum power usage of 30% or so unless you're doing critical processing
consumer laptops are too stupid not to kill their own fans through overuse
HPs seem to have great cooling. But the consumer shit literally falls apart. You can't win

>you should manually throttle every laptop down to maximum power usage of 30% or so unless you're doing critical processing
How do I do this? I have a 2013 model XPS 15. It has a quad core ivy bridge chip and the laptop only has 1 fan. It's a fucking housefire.
>>60155491
You should've gotten an Inspiron laptop. They are solid dispite what the retards here on /g/ say.

I'm thinking og getting this, precision m5520 or msi gs63vr
>>60155491
got an XPS 13 9350 myself
cpu temps are about 30-50°C while browsing
and reach about 70-80°C under heavy load, then the cooler starts
it stays quiet and cool most of the time
>>60155491
>what is hardware acceleration
XPS 13 or 15?
>>60155491
I have a macbook air 2014. It's pretty nice, although it's more or less an ssh machine at this point.

>xps 13

there is your problem, should have gotten the non manlet version
honestly just buy a macbook pro w/ retina display and stop falling for the memes. $1300 and you get yourself a really nice, no-bullshit UNIX laptop. done.
ignore the plebs and just do it
>>60155491
/g/ hates my 11e but it stays cool under load and never throttles. Only thing I don't like about it is the missing trackpoint, but it's still sturdy as fuck and not a housefire
>>60158097
1300 only gets you the 13 inch 2015 MBP breh
>>60155491
Get yourself a Lenovo ThinkPad from X- or T-series (I recommend T470 w/ RAM expansion to 16GBs, FHD IPS non-reflective screen and bigger battery). Then unlock CancerBoot, format the CancerOS 10 out of the machine and install your favourite flavour of GNU/Linux. You've got yourself an ultimate coding machine.
Whatever you do, don't fell for the Mac. Keyboards in rotten Apple machines are just plain shit. Completely flat feel and no travel or tactile feedback making them useless for programming (and any serious writing). Even ASUS eeePC has a better fucking keyboard. You'll also not have any ports other than USB C. Furthermore Apple's build quality doesn't match the price tag of the machine. They have over heating problems as well (based on two different MacBook Pros I've owned and used for 3D modelling and Programming).

more overpriced than a macbook heh

>>60158835
Except that 15 sucks poo. 13 is the superior choice.

are VMs a real alternative for native iOS dev?
>>60159494
nah, they are corelets, real engineering stuff really takes advantage of the quad
