What's /wt/ opinion on this meme watch?
Do you think it's a meme watch?
In that price bracket and genre, would you get one? Or are you drawn to something else?
Stance on FP Journe himself? His work?
I mostly ignored talk about this watch when it was being more heavily discussed (well, more than now) last year.
>>60146153
that guy's wrist is too small or the watch is too big given the style, one or the other
also that strap is fucking hideous and if you are even remotely considering that you should probably just end it now
>>60146153
That strap is disgusting desu
Would do better with a darker blue, no contrast stitching
>>60146153
Lots of respect for the work, but the aesthetics of Journe's watches don't do anything for me. I'd love to try on and look at the watches in the metal of course, and seeing someone with one of them on the wrist means they know their watches.
Also, the chronomètre à résonance is real fucking neato.
>>60145981
>tfw bought mine for 15 € (shipping included)
>>60146187
Holy shit I only just noticed how hideous that fucking strap is. Just chose a pic at random.
Here's a less offensive example.
>>60146355
where? sounds good senpai
>>60146382
ebay, a month ago.
melody doesn't work but fuck that
>>60146376
Doesn't speak to me, but get one if you like it.
But note how the numerals are closer to the minute track than the inner ring, also the excessive spacing between numbers in 10, 11, and 12.
I would expect a bit more attention to detail for that money.
>>60146532
>also the excessive spacing between numbers in 10, 11, and 12.
Looks like there's less spacing there than between any other numbers to me.
>>60146427
>melody doesn't work
fail
>>60146615
Between the 1 and 0 in 10 for example
They could be closer as the 10, 11, and 12 almost lump together as it is
>>60145911
I had that crappy watch for a while, bought it for 25€ shipped and sold it to some hipster on the /fa/ watch thread for 60€. I thought I ripped him off back then but seriously... 100 bucks for a chrome plated brass digital watch with shit functions and zero water resistance kek
I know its an absolute shitter, but that oxidized text is so cool.
>>60145911
Get the other one you posted in the previous thread. It's not tacky, just old fashion. And is actually a far better quartz than tge Casio
>>60146153
It's a superb watch, both aesthetic and movement and actually is the most coveted entry-level watch (if you can call a 25K USD that) of the high-end names out there.
HOWEVER, as lawyeranon has already pointed out, due to the propietary screws and the fact that most of the train gear is hidden below the dial, not a single watchmaker will dare to touch it outside of FP Journe service and this will fuck you hard.
Lawyeranon said that, by the time his CB will require a simple service, he's expecting to pay around 2 to 3k JUST FOR THE SERVICE. That's Speedmaster motfm money.
Alpinist
>>60146153
Not a meme.
Haters pick con it because they can't afford it.
>>60147293
>propietary screws
>2 to 3k JUST FOR THE SERVICE
>plus parts no doubt
apple level of jewry
>>60147527
Given how a single teeny tiny touch can totally fuck up the deep mirror effect of the dial I kinda understand the propietary screws thing.
But the price is just fucking ludacris.
>>60147293
>Lawyeranon said that, by the time his CB will require a simple service, he's expecting to pay around 2 to 3k JUST FOR THE SERVICE.
I guess that's about right, considering it's reputed to be around 1.5k right now; prices don't go down, do they?
That is the issue, isn't it?
But it's a pay to play game, "watch appreciation", so if that's what it takes then the market will decide.
Forking over for an inevitable service you cannot get from anywhere else is one thing, but worrying that there'll be anyone left that can service the bloody thing at all is quite another.
What happens when ole FP kicks the bucket? Or decides to sell out to Richemont and the like? I know he's denigrated them in the past, but or such a small, old school watchmaking *workshop*, I would be worrying about the future of that house as a whole, let alone the servicing of one little old watch.
>>60147776
they're not that small and they have years of backorders.
>>60147776
I bet FP has plans to make his brand remain independant even after he kicks the bucket, in PP or AP fashion, wich can be excelent or sink it like with some other independets.
He is concern about servicing in the future though, that's why he delivers his minute reapeater with a lot of extra parts to be replaced, if it's needed in the long road.
>>60147858
800 pieces a year and 30 staff for both production and servicing is pretty small in this business.
>>60148206
not compared to the other independants
>>60148221
How much production do those other independents actually do?
How many of them rely on ebauches from JLC rather their proprietary parts themselves?
>>60148306
What are ebauches?
>>60148306
pretty sure smith and dufour don't use ebauches
>>60148345
Movement blanks that provide the basis for your "in-house" work. JLC can provide minute repeater and tourbillion ebauches. For simpler shit, you can go to ETA/SWATCH. It's so that you don't have to basically re-invent the wheel when applying your special snowflake innovation in horology.
AP used to provide a lot. JLC and AP fed brands like Patek up until the 80's, when they had to actually get off their ass and do something big for once.
Voutilainen get his minute repeater ebauches from JLC.
>>60148306
>How many of them rely on ebauches from JLC
Who needs a JLC when there's ETA?
>>60148442
ETA cannot provide the ground work for future grand complications, only simpler movements.
>>60148438
Thank you.
>>60148438
VC had NOTHING in-house until like 15 years ago, and relied exclusively on JLC and perhaps lemania templates for chrono's. I think Patek still rely on old Lemania plans for chrono's, maybe some JLC work for those annual calendars? At least the old ones.
JLC, and its predecessor "Lecoultre" were some of the most important houses, being almost the linchpins of the entire industry back in the day.
>>60148508
>VC had NOTHING in-house until like 15 years ago
and they made the most complicated watch tin 2015. that's good going then.
t. wristlet
>>60148469
Note that an ebauche is not a functioning movement, at least, it usually isn't. The buyer usually has created the vital parts that make the whole thing work (usually) that is unique to them, and the ebauche provider allows them to get on with it and not have to deal with a large percentage of movement production costs.
That is to say, and ebauche is not the same thing as when modern shitter brands buy generic, fully functioning ETA or their clones, and pop them in a case and sell them or brands that modify, lightly or heavily, pre-made, functional movements.
Usually, there's degrees to all this.
>>60148539
Yup. In many ways, they've caught up hella fast, seeing which way the wind was blowing. Discerning collectors have been whining for more in-house shit for ages.
Now they're getting it, in spades.
Was surprised to see that even Carl F. Bucherer has made an inhouse movement, something nobody asked for or seems to want, but there you go.
>>60148583
What is?
>>60148508
Honestly JLC should pound the table with it's pedigree more. To my knowledge JLC is the only existant old maker that can claim to have *never* used an ebauche. They have developed 1,200+ movements in their history. They are an horological giant.
>>60148733

How do you guys get over the fear of scratching/damaging watches that are $200+ or even thousands of dollars?
Because I'm kind of scared of scratching my $35 Casio
>>60150541
If you're scratching it most likely you're using it. Which is what its for.
>>60150541
By not flaining our arms around like Italian autists
>>60150541
Most $200+ watches will have a sapphire crystal, which is pretty damned resistant to scratches, but can be shattered with a good hit (I mean, a real big fucking hit)
Others may use a mineral crystal such as Seiko do on their Prospex line, in which case it'll scratch like fuck, but never break.
hey /wt/ do you like my cock

This. Christ man.
Quartz:
>"Wait, when did I last change the battery? Was it two years? Or two and a half? Too late to change batteries now I guess."
Mechanical:
>"When did I last get a service? Well, a few months more or less don't matter. Not like it's going to stop all of a sudden at the service interval ha ha ha ha ha."
Is this the only practical reason why mechanical watches are superior?
>>60156689
Quartz movements need servicing too. It's just that most of the time the cost of service outweighs the cost of replacing the movement entirely.
>>60156689
non-shit quartz movements have an end of life indicator
>>60156701
My point was that quartz watches will fail suddenly, while mechanicals just keep ticking, and are therefore more reliable.

>>60161449
Mod one, but yes. There are some good ones though. I don't know why I haven't seen anyone interested in these 150's in particular.
>>60161967
what's the model?
>>60161851
Kek the texture looks nice irl
>>60161954
Fuck me it is. That's what I get for $30 on ebay

Your local watchmaker could probably center it for a song.
>>60162001
Thanks, a bit too dense for my liking though. I just need a calender and a normal clock
>>60162008
>for a song.
FLY ME TO THE MOON
>>60162008
Yeah I'll take it in when I figure out if it's running fast or slow and have them nudge the lever thing as well
Any opinion about Precisionists?
I'm looking something more accurate than mechanical but I don't want a regular Quartz watch, and digitals don't convince me enough.
What does /g/ think of this?
>>60162385
Pretty good I guess
>>60162385
It's alright buddy
>>60161960
Worst case and bad dials.
And desu I don't like the bezels.
>>60162059
Go for an haq or a thermocompensated
>>60162385
Case too big for the movement
>>60162385
>1kbucks

Good value, The downside being the 45mm case, so try it on before you buy.
Also check the IWC fliegerchrono, also a 7750 but at 3x the cost
>>60162385
I like it my dude, the shape of those buttons is fucking shit though
>>60162605
Fight me fgt
Absolute madman! He put his 20k Patek on a fucking $3 nato strap.
>>60162732
This would be great with that target Timex.
>>60162764
no it would be terrible
>>60162732
Are you mad he can do this with a PP while you only can put a nato on your shitty plastic Casio?
>>60162764
Or shitty Timex?
>>60162732
Not too bad as a casual summer strap
Instead of bringing all my watches with me while I'm abroad, I'm just bringing these two plus some extra watch bands.
r8
>>60162870
>all NATOs
>>60162870
I can't see the watches. They look kinda shitter-esque.
Love the 2 Bond natos though, keep them always with you man
>>60162732
Why does it matter dumbfuck?
>>60162780
Fuck you.
>>60162973
The watch is great, but using that strap on it would completely ruin it.
Post your most recent watch related purchase NOW
>>60163094
but i can't be fucked to take a picture of a $1 black nato strap

>>60163182

>>60163182
Armitron isn't bad for quartz shitters, you kinda got fucked on the HB though.
>>60163182
Fuck me dead those are nasty. Did you know, for that price you could have bought 2-4 real watches?

>>60163216

The Hugo Boss was a gift. I don't think it's bad. It has a good, solid weight to it and isn't too flashy. I'm using it as a new daily driver.
I bought the Armitron since I wanted a decent looking watch that was fancy enough to wear on a special occasion but without looking like a luxury watch. It has a nice, clean industrial design. Paired with a leather band, I've had several people comment on it thinking it was an expensive watch.
>>60163439
>>60159185
Better water resistance, better looking (imho). I got mine for £12, amerifats BTFO.
>>60159215
It doesn't count if the other person is literally retarded. Would you prefer if I said developmentally challenged?
>>60161690
Beautiful, I love these vintage Soviet Pobedas. They are incredibly cheap, have a nice history behind, pretty decent movements and beautiful old-school designs. I don't know why doesn't everyone on /wt/ own one already.
I am still waiting for my Bauhaus Pobeda from Hungary >>60149689
I wish I could find spare hands like the ones on yours to make mine look even more Bauhaus-y like the Stowa Antea. Maybe it's a stupid idea idk...

Acquire taste
>>60163800
The Armitron is the least concern here.
>>60163524
Seriously, the pobeda should be on the meme chart next to the HMT Pilot. It's even got a million designs from the 80s if you want to be a hipster and get some hooded lugs and a textured dial or some shit. But man all the '46-'60 designs are absolutely gorgeous
>>60163094
Is 34 mm to small, would I look like a faggot wearing a 34 mm watch? 38-40 seemed to be the perfect spot for me.
>>60163961
Can you set the alarm to only go off on the weekdays for that one? How bout separate alarms for weekdays and weekends?
>>60163800
>I like it
>other people like it
What's the problem?
>>60163980
To the uninitiated pleb it might, to patricians like us it would look fine
I guess it also depends on the watch and the size of your wrist
>>60164017
Not sure. Have a look in the manual.

>>60163980
Depends more on the watch than its case diameter. 34mm is a legit size, but don't go smaller.
Meme Casio. The only watch that actually gets me complements for some reason.
>>60164106
This always reminds me of Formula 1 and motorsports in general.

>>60164127
I really wish Casio didn't cover their watch faces with a storybooks worth of text.
>>60164155

>>60162732
World times are always such a cluttered useless fucking mess.
>>60164575
It looks too big for you in that pic.
So my mom was cleaning out the drawers of old junk and she found another one of my grandfathers old watches, a 2209 Vostok. The balance still runs for a while after shaking it so a full service might be enough to get it running again. It has no crystal (probably why it was retired) and the dial took some beating but it's more of some good patina and big scratch that kinda gives it character. It's not as well preserved as his Raketa I inherited and restored, but I think I can still make it look good.
The problem is something, probably an old latex balloon just melted on part of the dial and the case during all the years sitting there, I'll have to try to get it off with a pegwood and some acetone without destroying the dial print.
Pic is roughly the same model, only mine is chrome plated, the dial is a bit darker due to aging and the Vostok sign is a bit different, probably an earlier variant.
>>60164680
what, you don't need to know what time is it in literally all time zones at all times? what a pleb
>>60164795
that balloon part sucks, good luck
r8 the old man's watches
>>60164877
like the nth and seagull. what's the chrono in the bottom right? and what model is that seagull?
>>60164903
Vratislavia Conceptum. Vratislavia is one of these that only has a presence on WuS and nothing else.
Not sure about the Seagull.
>>60164877
Sekonda are chinkshit, I don't think they deserve to be in a watch box.
>>60164986
interesting
>>60165010
old stuff was mechanical Slavshit, new stuff is quartz Chinkshit
what is the THINNest watch I can get?
>>60165027
I know that. Poljot didn't see any reason to use their export name anymore after the communist collapse, so chinks got the name.

He's had the watch for almost as long as he's had me. He's become quite attached to it.

>>60165541

Thoughts on this new automatic pilot instrument watch?

This might be the ticket for anyone with a navitimer itch to scratch.
>>60165541

>>60165320
>Over £800
Anything slightly more affordable.
>>60165622
If it's 36mm I'd be all over it, but it's probably nu-seiko meaning it's a 45mm Invicta monstrosity
>>60165697
Tritium tubes aren't cheap, but it's probably cheaper to buy a wall clock from ebay or whatever and spend £150 on tritium tubes
Also, tritium tubes don't put off much light but I had a keychain one and it put off enough light to be annoying in the evening when I went to bed so I took it off and it stays in a drawer
>>60162385
way too big, unless you are 375 pounds
>>60165728
>36
that's asking a lot

It fits just fine but for some reason the lens always makes it bigger.

I figured this was a lens thing. Looks fine indeed.
Wear it in good health.
>>60165913
I wish faggots like you stopped with the 2big4u/nicewristclock bullshit and realised that watches always look bigger when taking wristshots with most smartphones. Please kys.
>>60163503
Not every quartz has that feature. And even then you still have to actually notice it, especially if your watch has the seconds hand in a sub-dial.
