It doesn't update to newer OSX versions so you have to reinstall it. Minor updates break divers and hardware compatibility on most laptops.

Don't use it on any laptop (except maybe an HP probook which apparently is supported well by OSX somehow) It is pretty comfy on a custom built PC though. Just make sure you do your research with the hardware you buy.

Hint: if the hardware is well supported under FreeBSD, it will work with OSX.

Once you've got the right kernel extensions for your hardware is easy to maintain. Check around for update info before doing update just in case, but it really just werks like any other mac running OS X.
That said, it's only worth doing on an intel/nvidia desktop.
