how can i see wtf is eating so much memory? can i kill processes on this?
>>
RAM is there to be used, dumb pajeet. Unless you have a memory leak, there's nothing wrong with letting your OS handle RAM management.
>>
>>60109887
Wouldn't you want to keep RAM usage low on a machine that is not plugged in all the time ?
>>
>>60109917
Yeah, your RAM is certainly among the top battery drainers on your device. Holy shit, you're dumb as a board.
>>
>>60109917
this is the dumbest thing i've ever seen typed

Just like everyone has already told you, if the device is not constantly lagging or running out if ram its not a fucking problem.

What if he wants to use something other than safari while having safari open? You're the retards, not OP. OP if i were you i'd use a different browser, and not come to g for advice

the OS will free ram for your new processes as you open them.
>>

>RAM is there to be used
I honestly hate this sentence.

I want RAM to be used on things I want and need.
>there's nothing wrong with letting your OS handle RAM management.
Sometimes it is. Why is Android so shit. I've got a pretty shit phone, 512MB of RAM, I don't need shit sitting in there. It will be removed anyway whenever I open anything because it can't fit more than two of my applications alongside all of the Google's botnet, so what's the point. What's the fucking point. Why not give me little control over what I don't want sitting in there. It works great when I terminate applications it left open just sitting there using RAM because I actually have some fucking headroom then and it doesn't have to swap as soon as one fucking application needs to allocate additional byte of this RAM that's there to be used.

Fuck you and fuck everyone who says that RAM is there to be used.
>>
>>60110221
That's not how RAM works, retard. By your definition I could have as many programs running as i want because "the OS will free up RAM" when i start them.

This is WRONG. RAM is freed as soon as the program using it no longer needs it and frees it, or when the program terminates. Stop giving advice

the ram is filling up with cache files when its not in use to give a smoother user experience. The OS will free the memory when more memory is needed. Atleast thats how a modern OS is supposed to work.
>>
>>60110231
iPhones don't have this problem. Unused ram is sloth in the eyes of the machine god
>>
>>60110999
>Iphones don't have this problem

Yea like the IPhone 5s with its 512MB does not have right?
> Hurrrr no
You can see it loading the app every time.

On a side note I wish android had some beter processors then Qualcom shit like an Ax version of Apple's processor line.
>>
>>60109810
This has been the way os x and iOS have worked for a few years now. Linux longer.

It uses as much ram as possible, caching files, shared libraries, etc to speed launch time.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if iOS has OS x's memory compression?
>>
>>60110231
>so what's the point. What's the fucking point.

It makes certain things faster.

Specifically on Android, it makes it much faster to go back to previous pages by keeping those pages cached in RAM.
>>
>>60111103
>being a ramlet
Apple does not officially sell the 5s anymore so it's not a problem
It's time to upgrade your appleā„¢ product.
>>
>>60110231
>have to swap as soon as one fucking application needs to allocate additional byte of this RAM

That's not how it works.

It will keep one copy in the swap file and one copy in RAM.
So there is no delay to free up the RAM.
>>
>>60111232
Of course it doesn't because Android doesn't swap anyway.

There must be delay to close or save settings then. I don't know what it does, but it's slow and it's clearly a bad system. It can fuck right off.

I don't even care to know how it works, I'm just angry about it, alright? Why does everything have to be so fucking bloated?
>>
>>60111140
yep, if more than your ram size worth of data has been passed through ram since the machine was turned on, then your ram usage should be pretty much maxed out at all times
caching in otherwise-unused ram is a free advantage, there's nothing to be gained by wiping and/or leaving alone ram not currently in active use by applications
