I'll happily take a slower browser over a shittier one.

The addons are the main reason to use it, there are addons for Firefox that simply don't/can't exist for Chrome.

Being locked down and having a different add-on scheme really make absolutely no difference. Hell, Vivaldi proves the locked down part is bullshit as it has a completely customizable GUI

Also, RAM usage was literally already referred to OP, but you had to bring it up again. You're grasping, luddite.

In which way?
Because as far as I know chrome/chromium is more secure, faster, more stable and has much more sane process management than firecucks. In other words it's better in every way that matters for browser.

>The addons are the main reason to use it, there are addons for Firefox that simply don't/can't exist for Chrome.
I have bad news for you, those addons will not exist soon. Embrace cuckery.

I can respect people who refuse to use chrome because of freedumbs, that's what I used to do as well before I gave up. But people who actually believe firecucks is not steaming pile of shit stuck 20 years behind chrome are either fucking retarded or deluded.

Probably.

>>60108078
Oh but it is way slower than chromium/chrome, specially on javascript-heavy sites. This is why I use it, Firefox is simply too slow on a few of the the web services I use regularly. It really is.

Firefox also suffers from the single thread syndrome. One javascript-heavy tab will slow the entire browser (all windows and tabs) to a crawl. Chrome really is way better in this regard.

>>60108122
Because it's a whole lot faster.

>>60108259
Well, Chrome really is a total disaster when it comes to RAM usage. Leaving a few windows open for a day or two makes Chrome sometimes use 12-14 GB RAM. Doing a chrome://restart reduces that to 1-2 GB - with the exact same windows open.

>>
>>60107990

Chrome was great when it came out, but they somehow made it bad. When they removed stacked tabbing I was out.

Firefox is OK performance wise, and there are just so many good add-ons, i.e. VimFX or Firebug. If you compare VimFX to something like Vimium, you'll notice that Google does not allow Vimium to run on this Chrome Web Store page and throws some alarm messages. Also I think Firebug is a tab better than the Chrome DevTools.

Last but not least:
I don't really feel a big differnce in terms of performance. It was a big differnce some while ago, but nowadays both browsers are OK-tier. If I didn't have enough RAM I'd rather use something like Midori or even Lynx.

But there isn't a big differnce between FF and Chrome..

chrome pros:
fresh start is faster
chrome cons:
crashes constantly in script or multimedia heavy sites like /gf/ /wsg/

firefox pros:
never crashes under any circumstances
firefox cons:
fresh start takes a while

The browsing and fetching speed is the same as in chrome when using https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Firefox/Tweaks

I take stability over constant dead tabs, thanks.

Answered your own question, you muppet. Firefox is /g/'s browser of choice because of customisability, and privacy. Only Chromium comes close, and that only becomes usable when turned into a botnet itself.

I don't know if it's opt-in or opt-out but it definitely has a fair bit of botnet in it.
I do not mind helping the quantum project though.

The past few weeks of performance updates were amazing. My session with hundreds of tabs now restores in just a few seconds.
>>

I've never had Chrome crash on multimedia sites, it does have worse vp9 playback performance, but no crashing.

I use Firefox because it lets you not install a updater service.

Telemetry is on by default and they tried to push their shitty pocket bookmark manager thing by installing the addon by default. You can disable all of this and more importantly mozilla is a non profit and is more likely to use this data to actually improve their browser than to just sell it like google would do.
Their goal is to make a good browser and to have a say in internet standards leveraging their (now shit) marketshare to hopefully prevent ad companies and commercial software vendors to push more botnet into everything.
Google made chrome to gather more data and to influence standards to be more friendly towards their business model.
Firefox would have to get really really shit for me to stop using it.

I set up shit so that I can play all youtube links on a single page with mpv from a single keystroke. I could also play a specific video by pressing two keystrokes (the same way following links works).
I also use pentadactyl to edit my inputs from neovim. Another feature I enjoy is that if you don't want to use another editor, you can still remap keystrokes in input fields/textareas.

Yeah, uMatrix support will follow once there's a plugin API. The crowdfunding succeeded (but is running for another 19 days).

(Also, I'm wearing glasses)
>>
>>60124822
Very nice to hear. You're doing a great job and I'm more than likely to switch to qutebrowser once Mozilla definitively kills pentadactyl, even if I'm kinda worried about security in small browsers and would much prefer to use a gecko/servo based browser.
Also, don't you think qutebrower will end up encountering performance issues since it's mostly python?
>>
>>60124876
Most security issues are somewhere in the rendering/network/JS stack, which is all done by the backend - so using with an up-to-date backend (like QtWebKit-NG or QtWebEngine with qutebrowser, or WebKit2GTK with vimb/uzbl) is important. I want to look at Servo once there's some Python API usable with Qt over it.

There are a couple of places where performance was (or is, for some) an issue, mostly the completion and startup - but people are working on improving that. All the heavy lifting (rendering, network, etc.) happens in C++ by Qt/WebKit/Chromium anyways. There are users who tell me it's running faster than Firefox/Chromium for them, I don't see much of a difference either way. So yeah, it's much less of a problem than you'd think.
>>
>>60124956
This is really reassuring to hear. Thank you a lot for your hard work!

>why firefox
>addons

The numerous "about:" configuration pages and the accessibility to "under the hood" tinkering they provide is what makes Firefox and its derivatives so engaging. The ability to apply addons is what makes Firefox and its derivatives such a powerful browser. The quality and variety of addons is what makes Firefox and its derivatives the best browser there is. Is it perfect? No. Is is the least crappy browser? By far, yes.

I hate that every browser nowadays comes with its own video and audio player, and probably handles codecs to an extent. Has anyone tried removing that shit from Firefox and having the browser, say, open mpv with a video I might have clicked in the browser?
