1) The only desktop PC I have is my Ubuntu work machine. WM is i3. Applications are all standard except

>Eclipse for work-related programming
>nano for text editing and small programs / scripts

2) Eclipse just werks for me. Privately I use nano for small things up to ~500 lines, gedit for larger projects and LaTeX. Compilation / execution is done via the terminal (gcc, python, octave, pdflatex).
