OnePlus 3

Good bang for the buck, speedy, premium build, good costum rom support

camera barely mediocre with stock rom, lineage makes it even worse

Curve: ergonomic, fits in pants better, easy to hold, probably makes it more durable
Small bezels
Got it over a year ago for $200
Hasn't slowed down since I bought it
IR blaster

Dislike:
Att version still on 5.1
Screen is grainy at low brightness and lowest brightness is WAY too high
Battery life is shit, 2-3 hours sot on data over a day
Uses the g3 camera which is pretty bad nowadays
Overheats easily in summer and then won't allow you to use full brightness until phone cools down
Seems to be the only recent lg phone that doesn't boot loop (need to justify upgrading to myself)

>Nice looking/feeling
>Got it on a good sale
>Charges pretty fast with bundled charger

>Took half a year to get 7.0 OTA push
>Still hasn't received 7.1 push
>7.2 never
>CPU starts throttling around 40ish% battery, slowing Pokemon Go to a crawl
>No support for Direct Boot, so if the phone reboots itself in the middle of the night, it gets stuck on the boot lockscreen, and your morning alarm won't ring
>No support for Trusted Voice, reducing OK Google's utility
>For a long time, always-on OK Google would keep turning itself off. This seems to be fixed, last I checked, but now I leave it off because it shares a volume control with games, which I usually want to keep quiet/off

Not a lot. It wasn't cripplingly expensive?

Not good for the price I paid, not a major step up over the Oneplus One that I previously owned. I regret buying it, and it was a waste of money.

>long battery life (needs recharging after several days even when used frequently)
>doesn't know what planned obsolescence is

Dislike:
>nothing, it's perfect

I used smart phones for years but it wasn't worth it. It's self-deception that you need them because most of their features are completely unnecessary and they have many unpleasant downsides. They get wrecked after 2 years, they lag, they have ads, battery gets empty after a day, etc.

>fairphone 2
People ask about it and actually like the conversation since it's more in their realm.
I'm in a situation where I have to interact with a lot of non-tech oriented people and finding common ground for small talk can be difficult, especially when they're the ones that feel it's required. So when they try to approach my side of things by asking what phone I have an easy out to steer away from the technical side which it's easy to get awkward in, depending on the person.
Honestly worth the premium I hypothetically would have paid for this phone (it's more expensive than equivalent phones). But with the use I got from the original it's clearly an economic and convenience win.

I haven't had any real use for modularity beyond what I had back with my galaxy nexus. They're all rather easy to repair. But the fairphone was easier to repair than the galaxy nexus. I can only assume it's even easier with this one.

Original case was pretty damn shit though. The new one they made is way better. But not entirely perfect imo. It keeps the 3.5mm connectors a bit too far out from snapping into place solidly. No issues with the connection beyond the physical practicalities. With the old case you could practically hold the phone from the headphone cord. Now that'd certainly cause the phone to drop. It's occasionally a problem when pushing my phone down into my jeans pocket. Not sure how normal that is for other phones though. Maybe I've been spoiled. The two other phones I've had have been very solid.

Cons:
Cheap as fuck because new company and prone to some not-so-good things

I have a heavily modified modified Nexus 5 running Lineage OS. I soldered the original battery flex cable to an LG G2 3000mAh battery. I also soldered on a 64GB flash chip but the phone would only recognize and write to 32GB of it. So I did some software modifications and used some files from a Nexus 5X to get it to address all 64GB. Now it works fine, even through updates. I think I'll only have problems with major version upgrades, which is still a simple fix of copying and pasting files. Not sure since I've only gone from 7.1.1 to 7.1.2 OTA so far.

There's literally nothing to hate. This is my dream phone.

Size, battery life (never had it lasting lesser than 2 days), performance, Continuity, design, iOS got a great workflow most of the time, camera speed, updates, also holy fuck the performance. I guess I could add price since it's dirt cheap compared to other flagships.

>things you hate about it
Bezels are huge, I worry about the loading cable breaking because it did for most of the people I know (then again, they also managed to drop their phones and all) and most importantly: iTunes. This idiotic piece of shit garbage software made by clueless retards blows on almost every level imaginable. It's butthuge, overloaded with crap, takes a while to install even on a SSD and fails at basic shit like copying music from time to time with no decent way to figure out the problem or even fix it. Also it crashes a lot too, even on MacOS.

Positive:
Even after having it since the day it launched it has not slowed down like any of my previous phones. Screen is fantastic and is in-fucking-destructible. Battery life is amazing and fast charge can cap it in about 45-50 minutes.

Negative:
>Droid Edition
Other than dumb Verizon firmware locks the battery mod doesn't keep all the connectors in place anymore (heavy mod use). Plus the triangle circle and square on the bottom are slightly burned in. A few scratches on the screen but if it wasn't "unbreakable" those would be much worse. Oh and no headphone jack

Like: decent construction, large and comfy screen in an more than adequate 1080p, good fingerprint/home/back button combo, good battery life, excellent every day performance, good price (was cheaper than comparable S6 at that time). Can take SD card. Overall decent software experience, no need for custom ROM (would still prefer one).

Dislike: ALMOST NO CUSTOM ROM SUPPORT. FlymeOS 6 STILL stuck on LOLLIPOP. Chinese in some stock apps (Int version). Certain apps refuse to work or crash a lot(specifically Sonic CD and Firefox). Button can sometimes get "stuck" on one side. Bad camera shots in low light.

Overall very pleased with purchase. Had phone for 1 year and 4 months.

>iPhone SE
Things I like:
Got it with good boy points before I left home.
Runs every version of iOS without a single problem.
Touch ID makes the app store very fast and efficient. Almost as fast as a GNU package manager in terms of time spent interacting with it.
The camera is not as good as a 6 but a marked improvement over the 5.
I upgraded from a 4, because I don't believe in upgrading at every possible chance. The difference in power, refinement and compatibility was very drastic from the 4.
The size.
The battery life.

Things I don't like:
The knowledge that my phone does things I don't intend it to or ask it to do.
The price if and when I upgrade.
The data bill.
The lack of regulation in the App Store's repositories- oftentimes, scam apps or shittily put together apps or games that do nothing but generate ad revenue or phish the user slide into the App Store with almost no oversight from Apple. They are almost always Chinese in origin. You'd think a company as huge as Apple would be able to more closely regulate it's own package archives, but I guess not.

it's pretty hard to wreck it, i'm pretty sure download mode will function even if you somehow fuck up both the main rom and the recovery rom

all you do is;
- boot phone in download mode, either power+volup or voldown, i forget (one goes to recovery, the other to download mode), accept the custom OS warning
- plug phone in to usb, use heimdall to flash TWRP recovery .img, be certain you use the correct version for your specific model
- reboot phone into recovery (power+the other volume direction)
- now you're in TWRP, from here you can install whatever rom you like, install it from sdcard, internal storage, adb sideload, whatever. also make sure the rom is for your exact phone model
- if you're installing lineageos, consider also installing addonsu, for app root support, also gapps (google apps), if you're into that sort of thing (i don't bother)

note! you might want to make a backup of the phone before installing lineageos, you can make a full backup from in TWRP
the user data might not be compatible between stock and lineage, i'd recommend making an oandbackup or titanium backup and wiping /data (factory reset)
further lineagos updates can be done without needing to reset though, since they will be compatible

Best performing Android phone I've ever used, great build quality, timely updates, bootloader unlocked, official support until October 2019 (confirmed yesterday), great camera

No micro SD, expensive as fuck, earpiece is recessed so shit gets caught in there and I'm afraid of ripping the cloth speaker cover when I clean it

>I know it will bootloop soon, I've had mine for 1.5 years now which is much longer than the average. At any given time this thing will die.

I was afraid I'd see this listed here. Under what conditions specifically do 5Xs start boot-looping?

I heard it was a problem with the soldering of the CPU, which leads me to believe it might be when it starts to overheat.

Does anyone have any more information about this issue? This is the best phone I've ever owned so far, I don't wanna lose it like that.

Check for lineageOS, it's basically cyanogen and you get pretty good support and features. Your S5 definitely has support, considering my S4 has official support.

I have a Galaxy S2, pretty happy with it.

I know it's aging a bit, but the only issue i have is that it keeps getting filled up with crap.

Considering rooting and putting in a custom rom, any advice or recommendations?

Getting an LG V20 tomorrow, AT&T model (H910), already got the unlock code for other networks (will be used with T-Mobile and their $30/month plan), considering the bootloader unlock/root process but it appears to be pretty fraught with potential problems and even a brick possibility, not sure it's worth all that BS.

Still has 10.5 months left on the warranty, and it's free because a friend just had to get a fuckin' S8+ so we'll see what happens. I hope it's a decent device overall, been using LG phones for a while now, wish there was a G4 that would never develop the bootloop issue but I suppose that's a foregone conclusion nowadays.

Not really interested in the extra display on the V20 (hopefully it can be disabled) or the dual cameras on the back (even the higher resolution camera apparently can't match what the G4's camera can do) so it seems like a few steps backwards to me and not much innovation happening.

If it works it works, can't be a free $750 phone I guess.
