If you want to do networking, it's essential unless you've got some seriously good contacts at some company. CCNA1 isn't too hard, but I'd recommend taking a class for it at the very least, since I doubt you have access to a lot of the hardware on your own.

Look on the Cisco website, theirs a certification for security that you have to get as well as routing and switching which is basically mandatory.
